Montserrat from Barcelona
Has anyone done the trip from Barcelona to Montserrat? I found this great website (maybe on here, I can't remember)
I feel like it has all the information I need but I was wondering if anyone knows if you can buy the tickets a day early? That way we wouldn't have to worry about the long queues at the Espanya rail station in Barcelona.
Re: Montserrat from Barcelona
We didn't experience much of a queue at all, but we went first thing in the morning, and it was shoulder season.
If you're really worried about it, I'm sure you could buy the tickets in advance. It's a regular train ticket, so it's either booked for a specific train or it's good for any departure. Either way, when you go to buy the ticket, just tell them when you plan to go, and they'll almost certainly be able to sort you out.
Are you planning on visiting other parts of Spain? I didnt enjoy Montserrat but maybe because I had already been to San Lorenzo El Escorial.
The trains going there were small and crowded and it was actually quite expensive compared to other trains. I didnt think there was much to do there. Just my opinion but I spent a whole day there and I wished I had spent another day in the city.

we purchased our same tix as well and also did not experience a que, at all. We went from the station right in front of the Magic Fountains. Train ride takes just over 1 hour. We spent a couple hours walking around the cathedral and taking pictures around the area, about an hour for lunch and drinks and a couple hours hiking around the top of the mountain. You could fairly easily do it in a half day.
We loved our day trip there and thought it was beautiful and refreshing to get out of the city a bit. But we definitely would not feel any necessity to go back again when we return to Barcelona (and we will return).
I am sure you will enjoy the trip there. I just have a different POV because I live here. The church is nice but I like El Escorial a lot better. It would be a good idea to bring a lunch with you.
I just didnt enjoy paying a lot of money to see a church when there were a lot of nice ones in the city.
