I want to try to add tofu into our diet, at least for Meatless Monday because pasta is getting old. I've had good tofu and bad. I'm just wondering where those that eat it (Shuga?) get it. I know the fresher the better. I've got some great recipes that an instructor at Stonewall Kitchen gave me, but he didn't tell me where to buy the best tofu, he just said make sure it's fresh. TIA
Re: Tofu
We've gotten tempeh and tofu from local farm shares-- in fact, the best we got was from my parents' farm share somewhere down closer to you. I'll see if I can get the farm's information. We used it to make a goose-bump producing tempeh salad with silken tofu dressing that I still have cravings for even all these months afterward... And I'm a HUGE carnivore with a longtime distrust of tofu after being a vegetarian for a couple years when I was younger.
That was some good tofu and tempeh... I think I'll run off to make some more of that tofu salad dressing, as a matter of fact!
There are a few places around Maine that produce tofu and sell it to restaurants, markets, etc. I've bought some at the Co-op in Belfast but that does you no good.
I've seen a handful of different kinds (including local) at Whole Foods.
Good luck! We love tofu!!
This is the one we get in Belfast but they sell it all over the state:
