Saving Private Ryan

I've seen it full a couple times over the years and in the theater when it came out.  It's such a good movie, but  heart wrenching. I've seen that it was on t.v. the last couple days.  I can't  bring myself to watch it when it's on sometimes. I just watched the scene when the medic guy gets shot and they're trying to help him. They're saying " Put's some pressure on it..Put's some pressure on it" and they all pile their hands on top of  his abdomen. I lost it!

It's hard for me to watch Shawshank Rdemption too.

Re: Saving Private Ryan

  • I absolutely love this movie, but have a hard time watching it if I'm PMSing or just emotional.

  • how funny--we watched SPR last night, too!  And of course, I cried...my "worst scene" is when they deliver the telegram to Mrs. Ryan...

I also bawl every time Steel Magnolias is on...

  • Oh man! When the mom finds out, and when they tell James Ryan about his brother it hits me hard. I tear up every time.  I have no sisters, but older brothers, and can't help but think of them :o(

    It's a great movie though

  • I love Shawshank.  I don't watch the parts with the sisters or where the new guy gets beaten, though.

  • Love both SPR and Shawshank.  Some scenes are very hard to watch.

I think high school kids should watch SPR in school so they understand exactly what hell those soldiers went through.

  • My sisters and I will be traveling to France in April to visit the D-Day beaches as a memorial to our grandfather, who was a D-Day hero.  While reading up on the history, a few different sources recommended watching SPR or Band of Brothers to get a view of what it was like on D-Day (I've seen actual footage and bawl thinking of my Grampy running up that beach).  When I read that I thought 'Man, I don't know if I can handle SPR again!'  although I hear it is once of the most realistic reenactments on film.

Sorry to butt in, but I just wanted to say that I visited the beaches in Normandy in high school and wow, so powerful. What a great thing for you and your sisters to go experience together! I hope you'll have time to visit the American Cemetery there!
