How do you know if you're good at sales?
I'm looking into changing jobs and one company is offering me a sales position. But this is new territory for me and I don't know much about the job. But they want to fly me to Florida for a convention and to meet some people. They told me it's not crucial that I go but it would be good for me to see what it's all about. I feel weird flying off to do this without knowing much about the company or salary at this point. We are supposed to discuss salary when we meet next time and they are hoping I can join them for this convention. Would you go without having any kind of idea of salary?
Re: How do you know if you're good at sales?
Usually 'Sales' means commission - no salary. When I was looking into my Sales position I currently hold I asked what my budget might be and what the commission rates were and figured out what I could expect to make in my first year.
I wouldn't however let a company fly me out anywhere unless I was quite sure I'd be taking the position. I would ask them if you could speak to some of the other Sales Reps and ask them about working there.
