Euro going up?

I know there was recently a post about watching the Euro and I saw this chart today, so I thought I'd share.  Based on this; it looks like it may be rising slowly?

 and from xe's website

maybe it'd be wise to book when you can now?

Re: Euro going up?

  • i got my euro for wednesday last week. it's still WAY lower than when we went in sept/oct of 2010 and sept/oct 2008. it seems downright cheap now :)

i agree-if you book and pay for the hotel now and it goes up you'll save a ton.

  • Going to Europe next year- do you think it's too early to get USD converted to Euros now?

I just called my bank and 1 Euro =$1.3779 USD

Hm, weird;  does that include foreign transaction fees or something?

I put a deposit on an apt over the wknd via paypal and was given rate of 1EU = $1.32 USD.

According www.xe.com; it's 1EU to $1.30 right now.  (I think it was $1.27 last night wk)

Smart; did you just do this at your local US bank?  I wonder if I should consider for our trip that's ~2months away?  I'm going to book/purchase tix for what I can online today I think.

That's what my local Chase bank told me. I am calling US Bank now...

eta: I can't book anything now since we don't know for sure when we're going, but would it be wise to convert my USD to Euros for spending $?

sure. if it goes up and you got them now they'l be cheaper than later. i mean it's not going crazy but if you ahve to get 600 worth of euro then it adds up even if it's just $.10 here and there per dollar you know?

Bizarre. I called Chase during lunch and was told $1.3000...so I went ahead and booked our Paris to Barcelona flight!

Crap; better get there! I see someone else(updated) made a fresh post about taking money out; but I have no idea how much we want to take?  I suppose I know for example, our first destination is Amsterdam and I've paid the deposit but owe the remaining balance in euro upon our arrival...so that's a decent chuck of change....but how do you decide how much to take?

(Obviously it has its advantages of getting euro now: exchange rate, avoid debt withdrawl fees and foreign transaction fees; but I don't want to have too much cash on hand?)

well debit withdrawl fees aren't really that bad if you take out a chunk at a time-like here, but my bank charges one flat fee no matter how much you exchange at the same time. i'd say maybe 200-300 in euro and then as much as your hotel balance would be. one less thing tow worry about later :)

  • Thanks! I think we'll do just that...Amsterdam balance due + maybe 300E. Then once we get to Paris we'll do a cash withdrawl if needed. Thanks.
  • i think that's reasonable. then you have 'just in case' euro. im always petrified when i go somewhere that my card wont work or the atm eats it or there's some freaking issue.
