My dad gave me his old SB800 when he got a new flash. I really haven't taken the time to learn how to use it though. I try to mess around with it often but I don't think I use it effectively. Learning to properly use it is on my to-do list for Feb. I think learning how to use a flash would take my photography to the next level.
And then I hope to learn how to use an external flash. I just upgraded my camera to the Nikon D7000 which has the capability to support an external flash.

Kathy, I totally agree with Kendra. Your photos are stunning. I don't know if you're still not charging, but in my completely inexperienced opinion, you should be. Well, I know I would pay you. And your niece is gorgeous!!
As for a flash, I'm not a photographer, but I have the SB600 for my house-cave. I definitely don't know how to use it, though I'm trying to figure it out. I get a lot of ugly shadows, but that's due to operator error. I'm pretty sure the SB700 is the replacement for the 600, so if I were to buy one today, I would go for the 700, and it's better technology. If you search for the 600, it would show up as expensive, but that's only because they stopped making it. Don't waste your money on the 400, it has very few options, and you can't bounce behind you, which you'll want to do. Personally, I'm hoping to upgrade my camera body this year, and I'm hoping with more ISO range I won't need my flash as much.

Aww, you guys are so nice! It's nice to hear feedback because I sure as hell don't hear it from any of the people I take pictures of. They never contact me again after they receive their disk with edited photos. Assholes. Ha!
And no, I am still not charging people for photos. I am so SCARED to make that jump. I like the no pressure of a free session
One of these days I might work up the nerve to charge people....

So far so good, although I haven't really taken the time to learn all the features. Yesterday was the first time I had used it for any significant amount of time. The camera has a ton of great features so I am anxious to learn all the camera has to offer
