Washer broken

Any advice for a repair place? Who to use? Not to use? Buying new?

Thanks.

Re: Washer broken

  • don't know anything about repairs, but buying new, we bought ours at sears, since they price match & also give you 10% of the difference. lowes also price matches, and gives you 10% of the *total*, so it's better, but they didn't carry the model we wanted. we had them match fry's.

  • i'd call around and ask sears if they do repairs.. do you remember where you bought it? i'd check to see if it is a cheap fix.. otherwise, i'd just buy new depending on how long you've had it.

    that sucks though!!!

  • went to Lowes this weekend and was excited about all the new washer/dryers now. (not in the market for them now, but we walked past them and had to check them out) If you can afford, I would get a new one. It will probably make your life a LOT easier.

    This.

Not sure how old yours is, but the new ones are really energy efficient compared to the older ones.

I had a really good experience buying at Albert Lee.

I don't know if washers and dryers are anything like dishwashers, but I learned the hard way that it would have been just cheaper if I had gotten a new dishwasher outright than have someone just come and look at what's wrong with it. It was $120 visit just to diagnose andt hen another 200 or so to fix. New dishwasher cost something like 350. :P

  • They were purchased by the previous home owner. I did some googling and they are close to ten years old. I really want to just get a new set, but we are also looking at a really expensive roof repair right now ( that's a whole other story ). I'm having trouble taking h into a new set.

at 10 years old, they are probably not energy-star compliant. if you buy new ones, you can also get a rebate from your utilities (we got rebate from electric *and* water for our washer/dryer set). so check with that too. i think we got about $300 in rebates..so that helps the cost of new....in addition to the new savings of actually being energy star.

  • What brand are they?

  • If it was a dryer, i'd have them fix it (they are pretty easy to fix and last longer than washers), but since it's the washer, and it's 10 yo, i'd get a new one.  Get the one you want for your set, then replace the dryer with the matching one when you are ready to buy.
