How often do you run your dishwasher?

Re: How often do you run your dishwasher?

  • About every 4 days

  • Probably twice a week when the kids aren't here.  Closer to 4x a week when the kids are here.
  • I voted once per day, but sometimes it's twice. I wash bottles in the dishwasher and we have a small, apartment sized dishwasher, so it fills up pretty quickly.

  • I voted every day but it's usually like every day and a half. Pre-kids, probably twice a week.  Ours is pretty small too, so that's part of it. It doesn't get run every night.

  • We fill ours about every 4 or 5 days.

This reminds me though when my sister bought her house she didn't use it for months.  I went over and she said it was broken.  I could not figure out how the dishwasher on a new house was already broken.  Looked and looked.  Then figured it out.  Umm flip the power switch dodo :-)

  • This and the washing machine get used almost daily in our house.

  • I run mine almost every day, sometimes every two days.  We're a small family of 3, so I have NO idea how we do so many damn dishes!  I swear to you I feel like that's all I do is unload and reload the dishwasher.  We eat at home a lot, I guess??  But I don't think that's abnormal...

That's similar to us. For instance I ran it after breakfast today and it will probably be full again after I cook dinner tonight, so it will get run again tonight.

This.  We have more than our fair share of dirty dishes and dirty laundry.

We do all the laundry on the weekend but the dishwasher gets run every night.  We eat breakfast and dinner at home pretty much every day and we all three take our lunches so there are usually a few containers/cups/spoons from lunch too.

My big boy is bounding towards 3! Hoping to add a sibling. image Hipster dog is not impressed.
  • Recently, I've noticed we run ours more.  I've always hand washed larger things - like mixing bowls, etc.  But lately I've just tossed it in there and we run it probably every 2-3 days.  I thought it was getting out of hand!  :-)  But I hate having the dishes on the counter drying more than I hate emptying the dishwasher.
  • If you only run it every 2-3 days, how many plates, bowls, etc do you have?  We don't have enough plates and bowls to make it more than one day.  But there are five of us eating as well.

  • Atleast once a day.  Sometimes more.  We cook every day for lunch and dinner and go through sippy cups like crazy.  Plus our dishwasher is small and not designed well.  So...we use it a lot.

Yesterday we ran it three times.  :/

  • Once a week but I hand wash all my mixing bowls, pots and pans, knives, big spoons, etc. I hand wash every day. We also reuse our water glasses. Surprise (judge me all you want germaphobes!)
  • We run ours every 2 - 3 days. It is just the 2 of us but sometimes dinner involves lots of prep dishes.

We have 10 dinner & 10 salad plates.  The bowls are what we run out of - only 6 of those.  But I'll just handwash one.

Or decide to eat toast instead of cereal...

We have 8 of everything.  DH will eat cereal out of a glass if we run out of bowls.  For some reason this grosses me out.

  • My husband hates putting things into the dishwasher that are huge, like pots, pans, kitchen aid bowl. Any type of mixing bowl. So we only have plates, bowls, and cups that go in there. However when I am home, I load it for anything.

We fill it up as we go, and usually it is run every day, but basically whenever it is full. And I also feel like all i do is load and unload the dishwasher. We do put everything in it though... We also eat in pretty much every night, and DH comes home for lunch most days too. :)

  • We used to run it every 2-3 days, but DH started a diet the first of the year and now we run it almost every day. It is amazing how many more dishes you use when you cook every meal at home. Oh, and we have place settings for 8 and then special plates and bowls for Evan.

  • There are only 2 of us, but we create enough dishes to run the dishwasher pretty much every night (which we SHOULD do - but tend to slack on), when we're eating at home on a consistent basis.

I, typically, cook every night of the week and use a couple of dishes for my breakfast in the morning and plastic containers for our lunches every day - so it adds up.

  • We use paper plates most nights unless it's a heavier meal so that we don't have to run the washer every day.  Pots and Pans and bakeware get hand washed by my 12 year old built in dish washer. ;)

We reuse water glasses, too. I usually have one sitting next to my computer and I'll refill it several times. DH always has one floating around as well. Want to be really grossed out--- I'll use his floating water glass if I don't have one handy!

We run it about like Melrrr- every day and 1/2. It depends largely on what we cook At dinner, fresh veggies means it's probably going to get run after dinner. Steam in bag type might mean it's going to get run in the morning after the breakfast dishes go in. On the weekend, pancakes mean it will get run after lunch. We usually go out Sat nights, so if they have cereal for breakfast, it probably won't get run until Monday morning.

    Ditto this.

  • We cook dinner about 6 nights a week. So between breakfast, dinner and any toddler items we run our dishwasher every 2 or 3 days and I make sure that thing is packed full when it runs.

    This.

  • Every day, sometimes twice on the weekends.  Dh takes his lunch in a reusable container and brings a coffee cup to work, kids take resuable containers to MDO 3 days a week.  We cook the kids a hot breakfast every day.  On weekends we do big cooking and I make bread almost every day.  We do A LOT of dishes.  Heck we use 11 plates a day (Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sun)!
