Am I being set up?

A little while ago, I was venting on here about how miserable I am at my current job. I was discussing with my Aunt about all of the things that I being blamed for. Most of them are out of my (or anybodies) control. She said that to her it sounds like I'm being set up, so that either I quit or get fired WITH reason. Is there anything I can do? Have any of you experienced this?

Today, I got blamed for the office being so cold, when we don't have a thermostat or anything to control the temp. Before I got yelled at, I did call the management office to let them know. What else was I supposed to do? Then my boss, told me that people are complaining about me for something I was never taught or told to do! Good thing I had a Dr. appt and left work early.....

Re: Am I being set up?

  • The only advice I can give is to document everything.  If you can send out mass emails when necessary (like informing everyone that the management office is aware of the temperature, and that they are working on resolving the issue).  Let someone know that you did something instead of leaving them to think that nothing has been done.  That way you don't give them the chance to think you're slacking.

I would also suggest talking to your boss about this.  If you aren't comfortable with that, do you have an HR department you can meet with?

  • Good advice! My only problem, was that everyone knew before hand that I called the management. That wasn't good enough. Me and the HR wanted to know why, but there's never a reason given. I sometimes feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone!

But I will do my best to CMOB!

  • I agree.  Document everything.  And even if it seems minor still write it down.  Your work place sounds hostile and that a lawsuit waiting to happen.  Cover your butt in case they do decide to fire you.

From my experience it sounds like they are setting you up, but that's just my opinion.

  • Yep, it sounds like they're setting you up.
