School Disappoint

I was looking into getting a BS in Petroleum Engineering because it would get me the furthest in the company I'm working with.

Company does tuition reimbursement, cool, right?

Ish- it's only $5k per semester.

That plus working full time and that none of my AS credits will transfer.. approximately 10.5 years to get 1 BS.

I could cut that in half but I would spend the entire 5 years either in school or at work. I'd never see my husband or have a life.

Re: School Disappoint

  • That stinks.

Sucks when a company offers a great program but then makes something about it inconvenient or innaccessible.    Hope you can find something that works best for you, so you can further your education and still have a life.

  • Yeah, that wouldn't interest me, either.  Does the company offer any kind of apprenticeships or intern programs where you could get hands-on training instead of a degree?

I'm already an employee so I guess the "hands on" is in progress.. and they state that work experience is interchangeable with a degree, but it's BS -

I have a friend that has been an accountant for 20+ years and she doesn't have a degree.. she wasn't even allowed to interview for the Senior Acct position.

The engineering degree would open a bunch of positions for me that only engineer degrees can get.
