So I applied for a credit card and was approved, about a week ago. Received my card today and went to activate it, only to find out the last 4 off my ssn isnt matching up. I'm transferred to an operator who informs me the ssn doesn't match at all. Turns out I absentmindedly entered H's ssn when I applied. I am confused as to why the cc was approved it my name didn't match the ssn... Shouldn't this have raised a red flag?!

Re: Confused by CC company
I am betting they probably only ran the credit check for the SS number and didn't check the name.
But, I'm not sure how that all works. Did the service rep say you had to fill it all out again? At least that's better than saying, "okay, all clear... go ahead and use the card even though our info is only half legit." I'd rather work with a company that tries to correct their errors rather than sweep it under the rug and pretend it's no big deal.
Well what's even more confusing to me is that she said she can just change the ssn on the account... My H does have a cc with this bank and he hasn't ever had any problems with them but now I'm a little weary. Could anyone basically make up a name and pick a random ssn and it would work?! Maybe because our first name both starts with A and the last name is the same, whoever processed it just never noticed?
Maybe they have a way of knowing that you're married.
You really know his SS so well you'd use it instead of your own?
Yes, I memorize numbers like you wouldn't believe. I know all our bank accounts, credit cards, loan accounts, utilities, etc. Numbers just stick in my head.
But I was pretty shocked when the rep confirmed the ss with me and said his. I guess because I've filled out so many forms for him in the past year and a half that it must've just been fresh in my mind? And- somehow only the last four digits of ours our different.
