Cleaning Linoleum

I have linoleum in my kitchen and so far I've been sweeping it daily and swiffering it weekly but it still looks dirty. It's driving me crazy. Any advice on how to get the little crevaces (sp?) that clean?

Re: Cleaning Linoleum

  • I use a Scotchbrite scrubby sponge or a rag and one of two cleaners: equal parts vinegar and warm water, or a tablespoon of Dr. Bronner's in a bucketful of warm water.  I just wipe the floor down with the cloth or sponge and use the scrubby part as needed for textured areas or stuck on gunk.

  • IMO, mopping or Swiffering a floor just pushes the dirt around. I prefer to get on my hands and knees and scrub the floor with a good all purpose cleaner, a terry cloth rag, and a scrub brush. Old school, but effective.
  • The wonderful thing about linoleum is that you can use anything on it.  I'd suggest a steam mop.
  • I also use a steam mop. It works great and is very quick - dries super fast.

I would still recommend a good 'ol scrubbing every now and then though.

  • We use this mop for scrubbing and then use the wet swiffer wipe to remove remaining dirt.  I have heard great things about steam mops.
