DH & Smudge were bitten by a neighbor's dogs
DH and Smudge are okay. Smudge has a cut on the inside of his lower eyelid (per the emergency vet DH took him to Friday night) and we'll follow-up with our vet tomorrow. DH has a few puncture wound on his hand, but was seen at the ER and is fine.
DH called Animal Control to report the incident. When the Animal Control Officer was (finally) able to meet with the owners, the husband was more upset about his vacation plans potentially being negatively impacted than he was that his two unleashed Boxers attacked another dog and bit the owner. We have had problems with these two dogs in the past. One is old and mean, the younger one is high energy and aggressive. Others in the neighborhood have had problems with them as well. They are frequently allowed off leash, despite being poorly trained and not under control. This experience makes me glad that we are moving in seven weeks. I don't want to have to continue to worry about those beasts.
Oh, and get this. After pulling the Boxers off of our Boston Terrier, DH stated to the wife, twice, "Your effing dog bit me!". The extent of her response was to mumble "Sorry" as she took her dogs home. Nice, huh?
We are thankful that the injuries were minor. We are also very thankful that Grant was inside the house with me. This could have turned out very differently.

Wow I'm glad everyone is relatively okay! This is the reason unleashed dogs scare the crap out of me. It's too ba for the dogs that their owner doesn't care about them. What did Animal Control say?

My Aunt and Uncle's dog attacked mine. My Uncle's response, well he just doesn't like other dogs. Seriously? Some people suck. I'm sorry, but glad animal control took the report and were able to make contact with the owners.
What? So they'll just be at home with the crappy owners? That's terrible.

And, honestly, I am willing to bet that they will go back to letting them out off leash. There is a secluded half-lot with limited access next to their unit, where the dogs frequently go (off leash). My guess is that is where they were supposed to be (or started out) on Friday. I understand the appeal of letting your dog off leash there, but only well behaved and obedient dogs. Those dogs are so far from well behaved.
This whole situation has pissed me off. I understand that sometimes dogs bit. But those dogs are aggressive, the owners know it, but they still let their wild dogs out, unleashed, in an urban townhouse community. A$$holes.
This. If they didnt I'd be handing them the bill. They deserve the ER bill too.

Oh my. I am so glad that your H and Smudge are okay. Your neighbors sound awful and I'm glad your moving soon too!
I hope when you follow up with your Vet tomorrow that they Smudge will help up just fine.
We have doggie health insurance for Smudge. The bill was less than $300, so far, so we will be out of pocket about $60. DH wants to pay it ourselves and be done with it. I agree, unless our vet finds further problems and the bill gets more expensive. With our PCS, we have enough to deal with. Yes, in theory, they should be held responsible, but $60 is not worth it to us, right now. It astounds me that she did not offer, though.
This as well. My parents had a similar problem with their neighbors and thankfully the owners didn't do what the were suppose to do and the dogs got taken away and put down. ( This was completely necessary, our neighbor with a daughter with DS and my Mom and several other neighbors were trapped in corners or on their porches by this dog and her out of control puppies). Hopefully you friend calling every time she sees a violation does the trick.
Oh yeah I totally get wanting to give your dogs freedom (like you said, if the dogs are actually obedient), but not at the expense of the rest of the neighborhood. Good for your friend for stepping up and looking out for trouble. Crappy owners suck for the animals and the neighborhood alike.
I can not abide an animal encroaching me while I walk down a public street.
There used to be a little weiner dog in my neighborhood that would chase me from his house to half a block away because he was allowed. I own a rotweiler and many guns. I frequently cussed the fuccker out while pushing DD in her stroller for a nice leisurely walk. I don't want an annoying ankle biter barking nonsense at me at high pitch for no fukcing reason.
If I'm keeping my beast Killer on a leash so you don't get mauled in the jugular, keep your dumbasssss gerbil out of my way.

ETA: I told the little shiit as he chased me that if he slipped up he would be stomped on at the very least. I also told his owner (on the porch!) each time that I was displeased and might fukc his day up without prior notice.

Did you know that Tricare will try and make those responsable pay the medical bill of the service member. We learned this a few years ago when H was taken to the ER after a car accident. Tricare went after the other insurance like crazy to make them pay the ER bill. You might even get a letter in the mail from Tricare questioning the ER visit.
I can understand not wanting to split hairs over $60 so close to your move, but I can also see the point about Tricare and the other ER visit. Maybe a monetary lesson would bring the point home for them?
