Oscar Nominations come out tomorrow!

Oscar Nominations come out tomorrow at 8:30a tomorrow!  I think they'll be fairly predictable but I'm still excited every year because we have an Oscar party.

What movie are you rooting for to get nominated?

Re: Oscar Nominations come out tomorrow!

  • I hope that Hugo gets nominated in a slew of categories (which it probably will) because so far it didn't do well at the box office.  I also am rooting for Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis to win.

My big question is: will Melissa McCarthy be nominated for supporting actress or not?  Experts at Gold Derby think that it's a no-brainer, but I just can't believe it.  Yes, she seems nice, and the movie is entertaining, but supporting actress at the expense of Vanessa Redgrave or Janet McTeer?  I'm snobby enough to say I'll believe it when I see it.

I wonder if DiCaprio and Swinton will be nominated.

Best Picture is really different this time because 5-10 movies could be nominated.  They have to get number one votes from at least 5% of the Academy membership.  Descendants, Artist, Hugo, The Help, and Midnight in Paris have an advantage.

ETA: I'll definitely read the nominations at school since they're on Yahoo news, but I am too nervous to read the responses on Gold Derby.  We're only supposed to read educational things...

  • Hugo was my favorite film of the year, so I also hope that it gets nominated in a bunch of categories. I was not a fan of the Help or Midnight in Paris at all.

I think Shailene Woodley deserves a nomination for supporting actress for her work in the Descendants. I thought she was fantastic.

I still want to see 'we need to talk about kevin' and 'drive' before the Oscars.

  • Drive comes out on dvd at the end of the month or the beginning of February, I think.  I plan to watch it.  I heard that Brooks has a good shot at being nominated for Supporting Actor.

I may see "Kevin," but it's not really my type of film.  Swinton's on the bubble for a nomination; she's generally considered to be #4 or #5, but Mara or Theron may sneak in.

  • Drive is available on Vudu, and they offer one free movie.  DH ended up buying it.  I think you can access Vudu with a gaming system, or we did it on our t.v. (Sony Bravia).  He was desperate to see it before the noms came out!

Awesome. Thanks for the tip! I knew my husband's xbox would be good for something!

  • I really want Gary Oldman to get a Best Actor nod for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy because he's brilliant in it.  However, he's not popular enough with Academy voters so it won't happen.  Plus they gave the award to a Brit last year (Colin Firth). I think George Clooney, the darling of Hollywood, has a lock on it.
