Oh, husbands.

I'm gonna be a little late home tomorrow night (scheduled a massage, woohoo!!), so I picked the easiest meal I had planned for the week for H to at least start before I get home - southwestern pizza. Now, I can't just print off the recipe for him to follow, no. I had to rewrite it all out in baby steps so he has an allegedly fool-proof plan to creating an edible dinner. Sigh. Verdict to come......

Re: Oh, husbands.

  • awwww husbands... lol. Mine is the same way, he gets worried making macaroni and cheese because he never knows how long to cook the noodles. I have to leave him detailed " honey do" lists because he can't seem to figure it out on his own. He needs everything  written down step by step. I guess he does get it all done, but why can't they just figure things out like us women do!?
  • Lol mine caught on fast to the "I'll do it wrong so she'll just do it herself" idea :) So now he has no excuse! A perfectly spelled out list with a no-fail guarantee!

  • I say treat yourself to dinner on the way home from the massage and make him fend for himself!

  • I have to do the same thing!! It's literally baby steps for everything!! So annoying!!

  • lol, mine is like this too! I get so many phone calls and messages in between the time he's started getting dinner ready I almost wonder if it was even worth the hassle for both of us ;)

  • haha, mine would (and has) made me do the same thing.  He actually asked me once *how* to thaw chicken when I asked him to do that so that it'd be ready when I got home.

  • Mine is pretty good at following recipes.  Can't wait to hear how the pizza turns out!
  • Mine would just order pizza!

  • Aw, you guys need to train your husbands!

AJ uses me being home late as an excuse to look up creative recipes, especially versions of my favorite foods. The only things I can think of off hand are chicken quesadillas and shrimp scampi, but he's always being a little chef. If I have friends over he almost always makes a batch of chocolate chip cookies from scratch, and his are to die for.

Hanz is pretty similar...he loves to cook! It is pretty great to come home from work, sit down, and be served dinner. Bahahaha..it doesn't happen too often, but when it does...I'm a super happy lady!

For all of you with husbands that need to learn how to cook & follow recipes, what if I came to your house and taught them how to cook some simple & tasty meals? (bahaha...kidding, kind of...)

  • Aww. It's so cute! Mine can typically follow a recipe, if he uses one in the first place. Last night, he just kinda made up dinner as he went. Simmered Chicken breasts, coconut rice, and roasted broccoli. If he needs a recipe, he'll make me go to Pinterest and print it off. He may even go to Pinterest himself and print off a recipe that I've pinned (shh, that one's a secret) And he can do a pretty good job. Just don't make it too complicated! DH does make some great fajitas though.
  • This is hilarious!  Mine does the same thing.  I leave the recipe out and add extra notes on what bowl or pan to use even down to the spoon to use to mix it.  The other day I sent him 2 recipes and told him to choose one to get started on.  He picked the one with less ingredients.  At least he is always in the kitchen to help me.  I think I'll start calling him my sous chef.

  • I'm glad MH can cook and enjoys it.  I don't know where he got it.  IL's following a recipe = putting in an order over the phone for pick-up.  I get a little scared when MIL actually does anything in the kitchen.  His grandmother couldn't cook either.

  • when Nayan & i first started living together...he didn't even know how to brown ground beef O_o he's gotten better though lol. i get him to help me in the kitchen when cooking sometimes. he usually just stirs the pot, but sometimes i'll have him cut veggies & stuff too.
  • I hope your pizza comes out tasting good!  My H doesn't cook, other than to make rice, pasta or steamed vegetables.  I literally think that's all he ate when he was single.  Sometimes I'll ask him to do something like throw some pork chops or chicken in the oven and he gets SO worried that he's going to screw it up!  I have to leave him the detailed instructions, and he still gets it wrong sometimes.  I think it's just a sign that I need to teach him to do more in the kitchen so he's not so darn afraid of screwing things up.

Well, that's the thing... I don't like sharing... and the kitchen is MY room :)  For instance, as much as I want to whine about how he neeeever does the dishes, he would put everything in the wrong place anyway and get me grumpy. If he volunteers to cook, I hold my breath a little bit that he doesn't burn the place down.
