Q for those who've worked in the Middle East

I have a friend (Canadian) hoping to move to Oman, Qatar or UAE to work.  Will her husband (Spanish) be able to work on her visa?

Your experiences are welcome, thanks!

note to meggers5: Canadian girl with Spanish boyfriend is planning to green card marry so they can go to the Middle East and make dolla dolla billz.

Re: Q for those who've worked in the Middle East

  • I can only answer for the UAE and the answer is still "it depends." When I was there, women could only sponsor their husbands if they (the wife) worked in certain professions. They had to be like...a teacher, doctor, nurse or lawyer? Something like that. I don't remember exactly which professions counted.

It is definitely a double standard there.  Men can sponsor their wives regardless of profession.

  • Wait...women are allowed to have careers outside those professions?

As if women can be doctors or lawyers.

  • Hah!

I think minibini is right, she would have to have a certain career as well as make a salary requirement. I don't know much more else than that - but kudos to your friend! Those are definitely the 3 best places to job hunt over here :)
