  • I'm really proud I even managed to make it to the store this weekend. Tonight we're doing stuffed pork chops and then I got a bunch of easy things like tortellini and stir fry stuff for the other nights.

  • Sunday: cordon blue...had spaghetti instead

    Monday: spaghetti...having tacos

Tuesday: tacos or enchiladas...chicken with the MIL

Wednesday: breakfast...should still be on for this

Thursday: chicken spaghetti....probably going to do pork chops instead

    Friday: i forget....maybe cordon blue

  • This is my 2nd month of listing out meals for each day.  It has been a HUGE help.  As you can see, i don't always stick exactly to the list, but it helps so much with shopping and just having that idea already planned out.  I mix things around if we have change of plans.  It has also diminished our eating out.

I guess I better start working on February's plan.

I've been really trying to stick to my meal plan too - and I planned for 2 weeks.  Week 2 got shuffled around b/c I was late one night, DH had a meeting after work, etc. and we had a crap load of leftovers from MIL - so we basically ate those.  So. ... now we're basically on week 3 of one shopping trip and other than milk and bananas, we haven't gone back to the store.  I'm soo excited.

I see how easily the budget goes off the rails - DH wanted to make a stew yesterday (that was delicious) but we had almost none of the ingredients at home - so he probably spent ~60 on ingredients plus random stuff at the store.  I decided I'm just going to count that towards our "entertainment" budget.  LOL

It's easy to just buy dinner but if you have it somewhat planned out, it doesn't make it so painful going home to make that dinner.  As you said, you can shuffle things around when needed or things come up and sometimes it extends the planning and really cuts down on the grocery spending.  We didn't end up at the store last week, but I surely made up for it this week.  I also purchased a few things that I normally wouldn't have that weren't cheap.  My next goal is to try to meal plan out of what's in the house, to clean out the freezer.

I finally got so tired of coming home exhausted and trying to figure out what to make for dinner so this has been a lifesaver for me the past 2 months.

  • Crap. I was so busy this weekend, that we didn't do one. Embarrassed

Sunday - DD's party  - ground turkey with onions & spices, red chili beans with onions and spices, refried beans, cheesy rice with jalapenos and cilantro, cheesy rice with onions, molasses cornbread, cheesy cornbread, vanilla cupcakes and chocolate cake.

    Tonight - left overs

Tuesday (?) - Lasagna (our friends are going to cook)

Wednesday - probably left overs, still, or savory pancakes made with onions, garlic, mushrooms and corn)

    Thursday - something with broccoli

    Friday - pizza?

This week will be a little off because we have friends staying with us temporarily while they find a new place to live. Their neighbors rowhouse caught fire and theirs sustained heavy smoke and water damage, so it is unlivable.

  • Sunday: Dinner at inlaws

Monday: Leftover spaghetti from Saturday night

Tuesday: Drip beef sandwiches (I have that in the crockpot now so I can refridgerate it tonight and skim the fat off tomorrow. They are YUMMY!)

Wednesday: I'm going out for Indian food

Thursday: Mexican skillet. Basically you take ground turkey or beef, brown and drain it. Put back into skillet and add one can of Rotel (don't drain), a half a cup of uncooked rice, taco seasoning, a can of rinsed black beans and a cup or so of frozen corn. Cook until the rice is done. It's so good and only uses one pan! We'll eat it on fajitas, nachos or tacos.

That's all I have for the week. I need to go to the grocery store!

  • Sunday: We had dinner with our neighbors, and we had a huge spread of food, pizza, wings, beer bread, veggies, you name we probably had it.

    Tonight: Salmon and green beans.

Tuesday: Spaghetti and turkey meatballs w/a salad

Wednesday: Leftovers and I'll probably do some seared sea scallops.

    Thursday: Pizza night.

Friday: I'll be out with my mom, so DH/DD will fend for themselves.

Saturday: I may fix up some some baked ziti and freeze half.

  • We are in pantry/freezer clean out mode.

Tonight we are having citrus glazed chicken stir-fry in honor of the Chinese New Year!

Tomorrow I will probably make beef chili. I put a frozen lb. of 93% lean ground beef in the fridge yesterday, so I need to cook it tomorrow. I will make a loaf of bread and steam the broccoli that needs to be used up.

Wed-  Chili from Tuesday and probably make rice or pasta to go along with.

Haven't further than that- we have some frozen salmon, so I should use that somehow.

I am impressed you do the whole month! We used to do 2 weeks at a time, but that was really hard when I first got pregnant and only wanted chicken nuggets. Now we do a week at a time, and pick a few easy things for busy nights or when we don't feel like cooking. We also keep easy stuff like Mac and cheese around to avoid ordering out.

Working FT, getting the beebee, going home and then having to decide dinner was enough to make me want to poke my eyeballs out.  It was a constant fight with DH about "what's for dinner"...he never helped with suggestions and I was just exhausted from having to decide at the last minute every night.

I take a calendar and write a different meal each day.  I surely don't stick to it perfectly, but it has eliminated so much stress of "what's for dinner".  If anything, it gives me a bunch of ideas to toss around and move around.

  • This week is so insane that I don't even know. I haven't even gone grocery shopping for the week yet.

Last night: We had nothing in the house, so I boiled some brown basmati rice, made a mozzarella sauce, and then topped it with leftover chicken, green beans, and spinach.

Tonight: I have to go grocery shopping, but I think it will be a zucchini lasagna.

Wednesday: Girls happy hour at Rocco's pizza in Annapolis

Thursday: PSU alumni association board meeting at Paladar

Friday: Friends coming over, I think I'm going to make some dips and appetizers, maybe a good soup in the crockpot with some french bread.

Saturday: Work dinner at a new place in Gambrills, Roundz gourmet market.

So, basically, tonight is the only night I'm having a normal dinner.

  • Sunday- homemade pizza

Monday- DH made a chicken, broccoli and rice stir fry

Tuesday- Cheeseburger Mac and a veggie

    Wednesday- Santa Fe Chicken

Thursday- Fish, veggies and sweet potato

    Friday- out with friends

    Saturday- not sure yet

    Sunday- Thinking about Turkey Chili
