The backstory:
Picked up Evie from daycare on Thursday. She was upsettable. Took her temp 101.5ish. She didn't eat much. Fever continued on and off through Friday, Saturday and part of Sunday. Got up to 101.7ish maybe 101.9. Not eating much. Congested. Bad Bad cough when sleeping. She woke up every 2 hours crying or coughing really hard. Even coughing some stuff up. Called the on call doctor on Sunday night to see if there was anything else we could do. Gave us the same list and said that they would like to see her on Monday.
Called on monday and got an appointment with the doctor I don't really like. She was running late (as normal). Even told me that she did not look at Evie's chart. Said it is just a cold. OK. Evie stayed home on Monday so she could sleep and get better since he had not really slept since Wednesday night.
Then drop her off at daycare. Talk to the teacher and her symptoms match up with croup (her son has it). I KNEW I DID NOT LIKE THAT DOCTOR! That doctor in the practice is always rushed and makes us feel like she doesn't have time for us. I am never going to her again. I love a lot of the other doctors in the practice so I am not switching, but I am going to try hard to never go to her again!
Evie is feeling better. Still coughing but sleeping more. She still isn't eating much and not drinking much. We have to shove the sippy in her mouth then she decides she is thirsty and chugs water.
Oh one interesting thing I learned this weekend - Evie likes tea! I made her some chamomile and put it a little more than lukewarm in her sippy and she loved it. helped calm her down too! The girl who only likes water now likes tea too!
Re: Pedi Vent
I'm glad you were able to help her feel better. Hopefully she'll be back to herself soon.
Is it Riverroad? If so, which pedi?
Yep Riverroad. I really don't like Handelsman (the one we saw yesterday). But really like Paras, Schwartzburg, Heit, and Poremba

Our pedi practice has about 20 pedis/nurse practitioners, so we often see a different one every time for sick appts. There is also one doctor I don't like and he just doesn't seem very bright.
But anyway, the only way they seem to really diagnose croup is by the loud, seal-like bark. Did Evie have that? Hannah had a cold and we got her checked and they said it was just a cold. Well a couple days later her cough got worse and became croupy. So we took her back and it seemed to turn to croup. Now Lily had the same cold, but her cough never got croupy.
This weekend both girls had temps of 103 and Hannah's was up at 103.6, We took them to the pedi on Sunday and of course it is just a virus and now they are fine today. Of course there is nothing they can do.
From what you have mentioned I wouldn't have been mad at the doctor. Ours are always running late, so maybe I am just used to that so it doesn't bother me. Plus like I mentioned a cold can become croup (depending on the child) so maybe her cough didn't sound croupy so she didn't diagnose it that way. The only extra thing they tend to do with croup is give a steroid to help the inflammed throat relax.
Now if you don't care for the attitude or bed side manner of the doctor thats a whole different story. I quickly dumped a new PCP when I first moved up here cause I couldn't stand her after meeting her once! Then there is that one pedi that I hate cause he is just clueless and not social.

Yeah it is her bedside manor that bothers me. And have heard from other moms that they don't like her either. Funny she didn't hear her cough nor asked about her cough. It was pretty bad, and had me worrying about it. I have listened to the coughs online to tell the difference and I just have a hard time hearing the difference. I tried to record her cough but was never able to get it.
Ehh she is getting better so that is what matters.

In my circle of friends we all can't stand the one pedi (the one I mentioned above). He missed when one of my friends twins had RSV and some other things. One of my friends complains about him and he is her kids primary doc! But she refuses to switch cause she feels bad. I am like WHAT?? If you don't like him and don't feel he gives the best care then switch! You have to have a good feeling about your doctor and full trust their opinion!
I also think its hard to be a pedi for younger kids who can't express what they are feeling! Sometimes its just a cold and other times it gets way worse! Like I was so mad at the on-call nurse who told us to take Hannah and her 105.1 fever to the ER instead of putting her in a tub to cool her off first. But then I realized how was she to know what would happen and just assumed we get there quickly.
One of my good friends is a pedi and she said its really tough when you miss something and the child gets worse. She said she feels awful, but sometimes symptoms don't present themselves at the time of the appt. I'm glad its not my job, although I did want to be a pedi at some point :-)
