Recommend your hair products!

I am still kicking myself for missing out on the Groupon deal for the Sedu (?) hair straightener that was out a few weeks ago. I've never used a hair straightener, but am very interested in one! If you have one to recommend, let me know!

Also, If any curly/wavy haired people have recommendations for curl/frizz control products, I would love that too!

Thanks, ladies!

Re: Recommend your hair products!

  • I have naturally curly hair and have learned to embrace my curls over the past 10 years.  I feel like I've tried just about every product under the sun but always come back to Redken Fresh Curls frizz control creme and Paul Mitchell sculpting mousse.

If you're trying to create a frizz free curly do, my best advice is to just squeeze the water out of your hair post shower w/ a towel.  Never wrap your hair up in the towel.  Apply the styling products and comb through.  Style with your fingers.  I never use a brush or blow dryer - even in the dead of winter.

  • I have wave hair and my stand by is Rusk Calm conditioner from their Sensories line.  Makes my hair shiny and frizz free.  Right now the liter of it is on sale at Ulta for $12.99 (which is cheaper than buying the smaller bottle in the salon).

I also use a Rusk ceramic/ ionic straightener.  I broke the one I bought in the salon and bought a replacement at TJ Maxx- it is just as awesome as the original.

  • I have post-chemo curly hair (it was straight before).  I am trying Curl Diva products and like it very much!  Also, I have been washing it once a week and then rinsing with conditioner the other days.  It keeps it so soft.

  • It's a 10 Miracle Leave In Treatment. It is my best friend. Does 10 things: detangles, conditions, prevents fading, fights frizz, protects against heat, and a bunch of other things that I can't remember it claims right now.

I also use Macadamia oil to prevent frizz and keep my ends healthy.

  • Sedu is great.  I actually bought a second straightener with the Groupon offer a few months back (I had the 1" and bought the 1.5" now that my hair is getting longer).  If you want to try it out before committing to buying one, you are welcome to borrow my old one - I can bring it to work the next time you're in the building.

As far as products go, I really like Alterna shampoos and conditioners (I'm currently using one of the Hemp shampoos and Bamboo conditioners).  They're pricey, but since I only wash my hair 2-3 times/week, they last a long time.  I also use a heat protector mixed with a few drops of argan oil.  I haven't really found a great product to use when I let my hair dry naturally/wavy; I've been using the Garnier Fructis Spray Gel for curly hair, but I feel like it makes my hair very dull-looking.  I've heard good things about Bumble & Bumble's products for curly hair on the F&B board, but haven't tried any yet myself.
