QOTD Tuesday

Inspired by Oscar Tuesday ... do you follow awards season? What do you think of today's nominations?

Re: QOTD Tuesday

  • I am sad to report that The Descendents is the only one of any of the nominated movies in any category that I have seen this year.  I usually do a better job.  I'll watch the show when it comes on, because I like to see what people are wearing, but I'm not an award show junkie.

  • For me, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2 is the only movie I've seen from all the nominees in all categories. I obviously don't get to the movies. :)

I used to follow awards season--I wanted to be a film critic at one point, heh. But now, without a TV, I don't pay much attention. I still like to see the best/worst dressed list the next day, though.

  • I just looked at the list of nominees. It looks like they were grasping at straws to come up with anything. I thought this years movies were pretty bad. I've seen a lot of the movies. I walked out of War Horse, it was awful, hokey and bad acting. It felt like the boy was two steps away from having a fling with the horse. Moneyball was slow but I don't feel Brad Pitt deserved an Oscar nod for it. Most of the nominees seem like oh we haven't awarded an oscar to them yet so or in a while so lets nominate them.

I used to watch the academy awards every year but in the past few years it's felt very forced so I just catch up on what they wear the next day.

  • Do we know who's hosting the Oscars?  Usually I PVR it and then fast forward through the boring stuff.

I've seen Hugo (meh, visually stunning but only ok) and Bridesmaids, but that's about it.  I plan on watching Moneyball soon (Derek just finished reading the book) and I'd love to watch The Help.

I've heard tell that "they" say that 2011 was a really dismal year for movies.

We'll just not tell H about this little fact, m'kay?

  • I saw The Help, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Bridesmaids and Harry Potter. I used to watch every year. I quit watching several years ago though because it just seems to drag on and on. I'm more likely to watch the red carpet arrivals and will catch up on the fashion that I missed the next day.
  • I have seen a lot of the movies on the list.  The ones I haven't seen are because they don't bring good movies to my town (don't get me started) and they haven't come out on video.

I really liked The Help and Moneyball. If you don't really like baseball then you won't like Moneyball.  I thought that the acting in The Help was great. I found it really interesting that they nominated someone from Bridesmaids, but she did make the movie.

I am not sure if I am going to watch the Oscars,  I have so much to do.

  • I've only seen two of the movies - the Help and Dragon Tattoo.  I'm so happy to see three of the ladies from the Help on the best actress/supporting actress list.

They're bringing Billy Crystal back - I always liked him so I'm excited.

I've seen The Artist, Moneyball and The Descendants.  The Artist was really good, I'm thinking that will win only because it's so different from everything that's been made recently.  I really liked Moneyball, and the Descendants was good but extremely depressing - I could see Clooney winning for that, I think he gave a great performance.

Also I'm planning on stalking the red carpet with my telephoto lens, so stay tuned :)

    Now jumping domestically.

Well that was a crazy couple of years.

  • I don't follow awards season but if I'm home and it's on I'll occasionally watch the shows. I really enjoy the red carpet pre shows more.

  • I agree that I like the red carpet and the best/worst dressed lists after. I'm not a huge fan of the movie awards shows. I just don't have the time to stay on top of what's current. I'm usually a Netflix person, rather than a theater person. Oh well.
