Re: Oscar Nominations 2012
I have not seen a single movie on that list. It makes me sad for my lack of movie watching this year.
Also, I saw a commercial for Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close and was like "where the heck did that come from??" and then I realized it was oscar time. Time Magazine did an article last year about how more and more movie houses will push deadlines and get behind on the artsy type movies with big stars, so they will release them in like 3 cities for a week in December just to say "HEY, THIS WAS OUT IN 2011!" so it meets oscar criteria, but it won't actually be seen by most people for months. Blue Valentine was the big example from last year.
I've seen:
Descendants, I thought it was really good but slow.
Midnight In Paris, I hated it.
Dragon Tattoo, loved it thought it was the best movie I've seen in years.
Moneyball, great movie more so if you're actually into baseball.
I've seen The Help, Bridesmaids, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Rango.
L3 & I are planning to go see The Artist soon.
DH & I planned to see Tinker, Taylor, Soldier, Spy but haven't gotten around to it.
I wanted to see My Week with Marylin and The Decendants. I'll Netflix them when they're available.
I saw Moneyball this weekend. Very good.
ETA: I have a friend who's an actor therefore he has to vote for the SAG awards. They send him all of the movies to preview and he said the Descendants was also very good.
My mom and I rented The Tree of Life and it was awful. I watched 30 minutes and went to bed.
I want to see Midnight in Paris and My Week With Marilyn.
I LOVED The Help. Bridesmaids was good but not as good as I thought it would be.
My Ovulation Chart
The answer to this is always read the book first.
hahaha. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I would agree.
Although, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo made me want to claw my eyes out while I was reading it, but I am actually excited to see the movie. I think that's super rare though (I didn't like the book because it took forever to get to the real plot, and I know they won't have that luxury with the movie).
This is exactly why I've been staring at this book for the last 6 months and have yet to start it. And now I've started my 10 Classics for 2012 resolution so it probably won't get read.
FWIW, I enjoyed the story once I got through the first half of the book. The details are still insanely tedious, but the story itself was good.
ITA. I think it was a little more than halfway when I literally remember going, "FINALLY." haha. It's definitely worth a read, but you have to be in the right mood for it and know that it's not a page-turner until waaaay down the road.
