Re: Question for FFX county teachers (now deleted)

  • I work in a different county but I would tell her to check on two things -- one, find her 'union' rep.  I know it's not formally a union here in VA, but whatever it's called.  federation of teachers, fairfax education association, etc.  There should be a rep in her building who can explain her rights to her.  Second, I would have her find the contract language about teacher discipline and evaluations, etc.  The 'union' rep should be able to help her out with this as well.  I believe a teacher can always request a copy of their file and add in any letters/memos of defense, to explain their position, etc.  She should also not sign off on anything given to her in terms of a written evaluation, etc without asking for time to look it over, etc.  As I've been told, we don't have to sign off on evaluations right on the spot but can ask for time to read it over.  Then I'd take it to the 'union' rep for review as well.  I had an admin try to stick some inappropriate eval info in my file and used this tactic effectively.
