Bikini Waxing

Any tips to help with pain? I've heard to take motrin and no caffeine on the day of. Is there anything else I can do to help the situation? I have dark hair so I'm feeling like this is going to hurt.

Also, since girls do nothing alone, there are 8 of my friends going to do it with me. We told them we have a book club (we technically do have a book club) so they're shutting the place down after 5 and giving us a deal on the pricing for manis/pedis/waxing and some champagne. The champagne might help.

DH thought we were discussing the book while we were there and that gave me a really funny mental picture.

Re: Bikini Waxing

  • motrin helps. Also trim your hair short, shorter hair hurts less. I remember the hard was hurting less. It also depends on the technician doing it. Just don't wear tight underwear or pants since you will be red for about a day. I got brizilians for about 2 years. Have not had one since giving birth, but got one about 3 weeks before giving birth (i think it made the process cleaner :) )

The area around bone hurts the most. So prepare for that one. I would try to do the waxing first then relax with a mani and pedi if you have the choice.

Thanks for the tips. How long do you think I need to let it grow? The lady told me she would trim it if it was too long but I don't think I'll have that problem. I can't stand the itchiness haha.

What kind of weird positions will I have to get in? I feel like I need to stretch or something.

  • Not bad positions. Some technicians have a pillow / wedge thing to put your bum more in the air. You will have to roll from side to side and pull your bum apart or doggy style to get the back area lol. Usually just lay there, leg bent out to the side, then other side.

it's not that bad.  It's no worse leg-spreading-wise than a gyn exam, though no stirrups.  For a girl who breaks electronics during sexy time, it should be no big deal ;)

The pain....is bad.  I think, anyway.  I think it largely depends on how sensitive your skin is.  I think my person told me she'd never seen someone get as red as I did.  She actually switched waxes and stuff half-way through.  I haven't gone it a while b/c last time hurt :(

  • Jaay, report back after you do it.  I want to get one too, but I'm skeeeeered.
  • Yeah, do whatever you can to minimize the pain.  Waxing was a once-and-never-again for me.  Coming from someone who had a med-free delivery, so I'm definitely not a wuss, but I just couldn't tolerate the pain.  I hope it goes MUCH better for you!  And FWIW, my friends with darker hair seem to have a much easier time than my friends who are fair!

Interesting! I always assumed it would be worse.

I had my armpits done and it felt like they were ripping out my soul, so I'm prepared for this not to feel any better. I think if I could just stick with it, it would get better but I also haven't gone back to get my pits done again either.

Lyn- You know I'll report back my experience!

  • This is so funny because I have been wanting to get one done but have been to scared one to admit that I have never done it and two to actually go in.

  • As I'm reading this thread I can't help but think of the person doing the waxing. I can't imagine getting up in the morning thinking "Oh I can't wait to yank out Mrs. X's vag hair today!"

    You'll appreciate this.

Two of my friends go to this salon fairly often. One has been going for a really long time and the last time she went the waxer told her that she hoped it wasn't weird but she really felt like she was getting to know her vagina lol.

The second one was told that she had a very nice hairline. She was so proud about that. I don't think you could have given her a better compliment.

  • Honestly?  I didn't find the pain too bad, if the waxer knows what she's doing.  The anxietiy makes it worse, so a little alcohol before hand will probably help.  But that's just me.

I've never had my pits waxed, but I have had laser hair removal done on my underarms and bikini line and with the laser the armpits hurt WAAAAY worse.  So that's food for thought.

     Good luck!

I concur! LOTS of champagne!! I also was a once-and-never-again brazillian waxer.

  • I've had it done a couple of times and would really like to do it again, but the price deters me. It was not the most horrible pain in the world, but it ranks high on the list. The worst part for me was the plucking after the wax. I couldn't make it through the plucking.

  • Get you some laser hair removal - then you don't have to get it waxed again!

...although laser hair removal kind of hurt pretty bad too.

What all did you get lasered?

I would love to get my pits and molly done. Really, my legs too, but the first two would be amazing.

    Nooooooooooo!

  • No tips here because I've never had it done, but GOOD LUCK! I so wish I could handle it just for the convenience of not having to shave and trim it up, esp with being preggo now.
