So now we're all set to fly to MD........but I don't know what to do about a car seat. We bought B his own seat (it was cheap enough and I don't think I could hold him for 2+ hrs in addition to having to hold him in the airports.
I know that our carseat (Britax Boulevard 70) is FAA approved, but I was wondering if anybody has experience flying with one. We will also be using it in MD, as we will have MIL's car to use.
Re: BWLO: Flying
When I was trying to figure out how to fly with our (much smaller) Chicco Keyfit, several ladies on the DC board suggested that I get one of these Travelmate things when LO got big enough for a convertible seat:

I would definitely consider it if you're going to be lugging a convertible carseat through the airport. Apparently there are two different models and the newer version the wheels come off easily so it will go through the x-ray machines.
Sorry but no clue how the carseat fits in the actual airplane seat. We just held LO on our laps and took a travel Brest Friend which took some of the weight off our (i.e., MY) arms.
We just traveled with a carseat and I much preferred it to holding her (even better, the seat was empty and we got to use it for free, woot!).
That said, I can't imagine bringing my Britax - they are SO heavy. I bought a Cosco Scenara to use for travel b/c it's much lighter. I also borrowed a backpack-style bag from my sister to carry it. Can you see if anyone has one to lend you. It was a huge help.
You certainly don't need one but it was nice to be able to go 'hands-free' with the seat.
Sorry, this is the bag we used. http://www.amazon.com/Childress-Ultimate-Seat-Travel-Black/dp/B0009RNXNA/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327427886&sr=8-1-spell
As far as the seat on the plane. It has to be the middle seat (at least on JetBlue) and you just thread the seat belt through the seat belt path (he'll be front facing, which I'm guessing he isn't in a car) and you just buckle and tighten. Super easy.
