2 Disney Questions

1.  What type, if any, of stroller did you bring or did you rent one.  I wanted to bring one so we had it for the air port.  Some sort of lightweight umbrella stroller.  We have a Chicco that goes with the travel system and a Jeep jogging stroller.  Both I feel are too big and bulky to take with us.

2.  Do I need to make reservations for all of our dinners?  Lunch will probably be on the move.  We have the dining plan, but was wondering if we should make reservations for certain things.  We are going first week of May.

    1.  What type, if any, of stroller did you bring or did you rent one.  we're gleefully kid free-didn't need one :)

    2.  Do I need to make reservations for all of our dinners?  yes and no. do you have any idea on where you want to eat? did you get the hopper tickets or will you do only one park a day?

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:

  • We did get the hopper.  The only reservation we have so far is one of the Princess breakfasts.  I want to do another character breakfast with Mickey, etc so I know to make a reservation for that.  What got me thinking about this was that we are going to be down there for Cinco de Mayo.  My bday is the day before, but we always go for Mexican and was thinking of going to Mexico in Epcot for dinner and I was thinking I would probably need to make a reservation just to be on the safe side.  So then I starting wondering if I should make reservations at other places.

I've never been on a vacation where I felt I needed to plan so much and I really dont mind just wining dinner, but I guess I should reserve where I think I will need to.

Can I make them when we get down there?  Like same day reservations?

  • For table service meals you should make reservations ahead of time.  While you may be able to walk up to some places, the more desired restaurants will not likely be available.  Most restaurants do not require a credit card to make a reservation, so if you change your mind you can just call that day and cancel.  You'll be better off going in with reservations and seeing how it goes than trying to wing it, especially with the dining plan.

no i would absolutely not wait until you get there. it's easy-just call them.

my fave is california grill and it's great with the fireworks during dinner. you absolutely need to make this res 3 months in advance.

we made reservations for each night for dinner as it's a pita to try and walk around and find something-everything's got sucha long wait. lunch is ok, dinner is different.

  • You should be okay with an umbrella, but make sure it's got got someplace to stash your stuff, especially water bottles.  We were at Disney during early May last year and it did get warm.  You'll want to have water on you in the parks.  Our girls shared an umbrella because we didn't want to deal with a bulky stroller.  It had a net basket underneath which was good for stashing a change of clothes for each child, water, snacks, and souvenirs.

Make all your dining reservations now for any sit-down meals.  That's my recommendation.

  • I've done Disney with both an umbrella stroller and my City Mini. It honestly made no difference, but the City Mini folds easily. I'd pick a stroller that can fold compactly for the buses.

Make dining reservations for sure. We went at a non-peak time and wouldn't have needed them, but I'd rather have them than not.
  • You'll definitely need reservations for any sit down meals.  You can do it online on their web site, it is very easy and you have multiple choices for times in most cases. The system searches about 1-2 hours before and after the time you put in.
  • In regards to your question about dinner reservations... We only make them at restaurants we absolutely want to make sure we eat at and wing the rest, otherwise you have to plan your day around your dinner reservation. Personally, I find that annoying and sometimes a huge PITA when you have a LO.

Just be aware that you may have to wait instead of going right in, but that doesn't bother us. ;)

  • How old is your LO?  Is there any way that you can go without a stroller and just rent one when you are down there.  It is so easy and you won't have to worry about taking it.  Or you can just use an umbrella stroller but then you have to worry about LO not being able to nap comfortably when he/she falls asleep.

I agree with PP who said that she doesn't like to be tied down to a reservation while in the parks. The times that I have made in park reservations, I find myself on the opposite side of the park waiting in line for a ride 20 mins prior to the res.  It just seems like the planning with me is always off.  I have made reservations are for character meals and the Hoop de Doo review.  But I also don't typically do a sit down meal every night when there either. There are nights that we are in the park and have ice cream for dinner or look at the clock and realize that it's 3:30 and we hadn't had lunch yet so have a late lunch.
