How are they comparable to a regular ticket pricewise? Just debating whether or not it would be worth it to book one for my 18 month old and put his car seat on the plane so he has his own space or just have him on my lap.
Re: Southwest infant fares
I found this on the Southwest website. Maybe I am reading it wrong, but it sounds like you get a discounted fare for a seat with a carseat.
Traveling with the infant in an FAA-approved car seat:
I'd ask them. They wouldn't offer me one with a carseat when I tried to book a few weeks ago.
If memory serves me correct, someone mentioned they got it and it was only like 10% off. It's not a half-price ticket or anything.
During peak times they're damn pricey. I think an infant fare over Christmas last year was in the $400 range. Not sure how off-peak times would compare. I'd just call and find out.
How long is the flight? DD was a lap child for a 2.5 hour flight (with layover) and she was fine.

I have never found SW infant fares to be cheaper then their online prices. If you are buying a seat it doesnt matter if you have a car seat or not. We bought DD a seat when she was 18 months- there was no way I was lugging the car seat on the plane, we have a CARES harness, it's a FAA approved harness- it works great and fold up into my purse when we aren't using it.
Call and ask, but it is likely that their Wanna Get Away and other specials will be cheaper then their infant ticket.
