so last night, when i couldn't sleep, i decided to start my baby research, officially. i hopped on over to the seattle babies.. or bump board and also visited the cloth diaper board.
um.. pretty sure it was in a different language. so then i decided to google about cloth diapers.. i had done this before but since my knowledge was never put to use, i forgot.. completely overwhelmed but REALLY want to cloth diaper..
anyway.. this girl was talking about some sort of rash and i just really didn't understand the words or anything.
being pregnant sounds complicated.

we're having twins!
Re: lurking
I had wanted to cloth diaper but when I was looking at daycares (in home and whatnot) that were licensed they couldn't do cloth diapers because of it because a bacterial hazard or something...just something to consider. But hopefully you have way more options for daycare/nanny/ or stay at home than I have in a smaller town.
I've actually barely lurked on the seattle board for babies...I find birth month far better at being able to relate to. All the other moms are at the same stages you are at with pregnancy and then once the babies are born they are all hitting the same milestones. 1st, 2nd, 3rd trimester are fun too but a little bit more drama (thanks to prego hormones!) but still informative.
But I'm sure there are enough nesties who have babies, are pregnant or whatever we can be just as helpful ;-)
What kind of rash were they talking about?
we won't be putting our child in daycare. atleast not right away. i haven't discussed it with my job yet but i'm almost positive that i can change my work schedule to be around h's.
and possibly work sunday as well! it's been done in the past and i shouldn't be any different.. so here's hoping.. otherwise, h will change his schedule to accommodate mine.. which will be harder but since i'm the bread winner, my job is more important in the grand scheme of things.
i don't remember the rash. i don't even think i could pronounce it.
i did some research on CD, but ultimately decided against it for cost effectiveness and convenience. it's not easy to CD outside the home, and if you go out and need to change a diaper, you'll need to use traditional diapers anyways.so like pp said, daycares, etc, don't take them.
it's sad how many diapers get thrown away into the landfill, but oh well..part of being human, i suppose.
i don't know anything about the rash.

I'm jealous! I wish my H and I could do that oh well. Maybe someday I can win the lotto and just be a SAHM.
That's also one of our deciding factors against them.
still hoping for this.
jennlin- i've always wanted to CD.. so i'm hoping that once i get down to it, it won't be the worst thing. also, i see that start up and washing laundry all the time will be expensive, but i hate diapers! h is not 100% sold on this yet.. even though i've been talking about it for 10 years.. lol. but we'll see what happens. a friend of mine is cd and another plans to when her baby is born in the next few months. I'm hoping to get a lot of advice from them!
a friend of mine CD's and she says it's really not that bad, once you stop BF. because BF poopy is horrible.

Really? BF poop smells way better than other poops. Now that we've started solid good lordy does it stink. Consistency is still the same but we also just started...
i don't think she's referring to the smell, but the consistency. because once you start solids, the poopy starts to turn solid, etc, so it's easier to clean up.

Well we've only done rice cereal, oatmeal and bananas so not big changes except smell....haha.
Onto sweet potatos tonight!
wait.. i thought bf poop wasn't that bad? since most of it is nutrients? ahhhh.
hallamb- is the consistency different? or did you bf?
BF poop is not bad. Only when there is an imbalance of formilk and hindmilk.I still BF (slowly quitting though since my supply took a huge hit when I got the flu last week). I haven't noticed a consistency difference yet since adding rice cereal, oatmeal and bananas. But the smell has changed. It smells more poop like. I guess jennlin said her friend said that the consistency gets more managable once you really get into solids....
For the baby that is 6-8 mo old and almost potty trained, are they just constantly putting them on a potty device and getting excited each time something happens? My lil guy is too much of a squirmer and is crawling but will not sit still so I have no idea how to even start the process..... ???
There are daycare's that are willing to work with CD mom's!
Also.. I've been thinking about cloth diapering and I agree it is very overwhelming. All the different brands etc etc. I found this spreadsheet to be helpful:

So, here's the deal with cloth diapering. It sounds awesome, and if you're dedicated enough, it can be. But. You have to wash every diaper that they use - and that can be up to twelve a day at first (it's more like 6-8 now). We thought that we'd go with the diaper service to have them wash them for us, but that gets super expensive.
We were this close to cloth diapering (even got our first shipment from the diaper service) when we decided it would just be easier to do disposable. And it is. Way easier.
And, M has never gotten a diaper rash, thank goodness.

The other thing about cloth diapering is that once you start solids you have to scrape, or buy a diaper sprayer to attach to your toilet, the poop into the toilet since that poop is not water soluble like BFing poop is. So it becomes a little more work once they start solids to make sure that non of that poop is getting into the washing machine.
You also don't have to use disposables going out you just have to carry around a wet bag and enough supplies to make sure that if you are gone a while you don't run out of diapers before you get home.
I wanted to cloth diaper but since we live in an apartment and can't control what detergents go into the machines, certain detergents make cloth diapers lose their absorbency, and we have to pay $3.00 to wash and dry a load it just wasn't worth it to us. H said we can revisit the idea when we have a house and don't have to use quarters to do our laundry.
Early potty training is called elimination communication. Sounds bizarre, but it seems to really work for a lot of people (at home).
There's a whole cloth diapering board on TB.
Yes, all of this.THANK YOU!We're undecided about cd at first, b/c that means buying nb diapers that won't likely be used very long, but after that we're cding.
Sounderschick -- Even though we're committed to cd, i couldn't imagine doing it w/o our own washer and dryer -- too gross toting it around, too expensive, too time consuming.
