Tell me about Capitol Hill
Food?
Wine?
Entertainment?
Is there an area considered downtown, like there is in Ballard?
Re: Tell me about Capitol Hill
1st year anniversary in Victoria with a killer whale topiary!
Fixed, sorry about that.
First off, I'm totally biased, because I live there, and love love love it. And if you move there, we can be super friends, haha.
Food? Tons of really really good food. Everything from gastropubs (Quinns) Italian (Via Tribunali, Spinasse, Anchovies & Olives, Altura, La Spiga), to Thai (Pinto, Jamjuree), Indian (Travalers, Annapurna), Sushi (Momiji) and others (Skillet, Olivar, Poppy, Cafe Presse, Joe Bar). Seriously fantastic coffee as well (Cafe Vita, Vivace). There are seriously tons and tons more, those are just the first ones that came to mind.
Wine? There are some good wine bars, and a few wine shops. Most restaurants and bars have a good wine selection, and some places have been piloting wine on tap.
Entertainment? The bars are great. I love Knee High Stocking Co., Sun Liquor, Needle and Thread (in Tavern Law), Stumbling Monk. When we go to the theater, it's a super easy walk downtown. There are great parks (I live right by a big one), awesome people watching, and just general fun stuff to do. Sports leagues, too.
Is there an area considered downtown, like there is in Ballard? The main area I would say is between Madison and Aloha, between 16th and Harvard.

NBD when it's a place you're unfamiliar with. It's super weird to me when I see people who live there misspelling it. Shouldn't a person know how to spell her own neighborhood name?
Capitol Hill's pretty cool, though not as fun as it used to be (the condo boom forced out a lot of funky businesses). Great food options and bars, plus interesting shopping. I've never lived there. The cons for me would be parking (I'd seriously consider ditching the car and relying on Zipcar), noise (it's an active neighborhood, and people are up and out late), and cost (rent is high).

Thanks ladies!
I won't be moving there, but my new job is in the area. I honestly had never been to the area before my interview. Guess it's time to explore a new area!
I'd love to work there.
We used to live just about on the Cap Hill/1st Hill boundary. Parking really wasn't THAT bad, you just have to know where to go.
It was really noisy, though, esp at night -- even with a 5th/6th floor apt, we could hear the drunks caroling down the street in all kinds of weather -- and I definitely agree on the cost.
It's a fun neighbourhood; I liked it a lot.
