I am hosting a baby shower in about a month. Per the mother-to-be's request, there will be some sort of alcohol served in addition to another punch. (Her words: "Just because I can't drink doesn't mean everyone else has to suffer.") I was thinking about doing a sangria, but considering it will be in February, that seems unseasonable. My other thoughts would be some sort of alcoholic punch, clearly distinguished from the non-alcoholic, or just keep it simple with some red and white wine. It's going to be on the smaller side, about 15 guests, and we are using red and blue as our primary decorating colors. The shower is going to be on a Sunday afternoon, so while I do not anticipate there will be a lot of drinking, many of the guests will probably enjoy a glass of whatever is offered. Thoughts?
Re: Alcoholic punch v. Wine
I don't think there is a sangria season. I'd just pick more seasonable fruits- pears, kiwi, clementines. I don't think a punch would be bad, but something about hard alcohol on a Sunday afternoon baby shower seems off. Wine for 15 might be easy
In a nutshell I don't think any option is bad, but for simplicity I'd probably just set out some wine.
After writing it out and thinking about, that's what I'm inclined to do as well. If I did a punch, it would be a champagne or wine punch, not hard liquor.
I guess I haven't been to too many showers now that I really think about it, but none served alcohol. Punch is usually included though, and probably because it tends to be a cake-serving-reception staple?
Because it's an afternoon shower, champaign punch seems like the most appropriate thing to me. Most people would be able to enjoy that whereas with wine many people have very specific tastes and it would be harder to please everyone with a couple bottles.
I just co-hosted a brunch shower this weekend and we had bottles of champagne, next to pitchers of orange juice (for mimosas) and peach juice (for bellinis) next to the bottles of champage. People were able to serve themselves a strong drink, a weak drink or just a glass of juice.
It worked out really well.
