Passport in Canada?

My goal in 2012 was to get another stamp in my passport, but our travel plans are keeping me in the US.

I just found out that I have to go to Alberta, Canada for work. Will my passport get stamped to enter Canada?

Re: Passport in Canada?

  • Possibly. I know mine has been stamped when I've gone to the U.S. so I assume it would be the same when you come to Canada.

  • Probably. They put a stupid stamp in mine just to transit through the airport in Montreal

  • You may have to ask the agent.  I did when we went through Montreal, but not when we entered through Quebec.

  • I have no idea b/c I have only driven through with my drivers license when I was yelled at by a Canadian Customs' Agent to not come back to their country again without my passport...this was before the requirements changed and I was in Buffalo for work.

But this makes me sad to think about that I had to get a new passport so it only has Aruba in it:(  Glad we are going to England in a few months.

  • I've only ever gone to Canada by driving and via the border crossing by Vancouver, BC (is that Blaine?) and they've never stamped my passport.

Really? I travel to the US all the time, and have never gotten even one stamp...I only have stamps from Jamaica and Mexico.

  • I think the answer is maybe/maybe not.  Probably depends on who your border control agent is and what he/she's been told to do.  I know when DS and I went to Vancouver 2010, we drove up (lived just 2 hours south of Vancouver, BC at that time).  This was just after the regulations had changed to require passports.  There was no stamp for either of us.  DH and I never got stamps the couple times we took the ferry from Anacortes, WA to Vancouver Island, BC either.  Hopefully you're able to get a stamp though :)

  • I normally get stamps going to Montreal. If you want a stamp, just ask them. That is what I did as a kid and it worked. :)

  • You can also ask them to, we have done this before and they have always obliged, not in Canada but other places.

  • I really have nothing to add other than I'm glad I'm not the only person who looks forward to stamps in my passport.

I lost my one and only stamp when I changed my name on my passport.  I finally got a stamp on my new passport last month, which was 2.5 years later.  I'm getting another stamp in April and I'm excited!  It's the little things in life, right?  Big Smile

  • We've driven to Montreal twice, through New York State. I never got a stamp.

But I heard you can ask for one.

Yep. They don't do it all the time but they have. I have it twice for when I went to Vegas and one for Miami.

  • I've been to Canada many times (including four times in 2011), haven't gotten a stamp even once.

  • We drive up all the time, and I have never had mine stamped.  Don't know if you could even ask, our border is always SO busy!
