Bad baby name from my local paper.

Re: Bad baby name from my local paper.

  • Indifferent

I can't even come up with a witty joke for that one.

  • I'm stuck on how to pronounce it.  Where's the emphasis?  De-FINEST?  DEF-inest?

    And is that a long i or a short i?  De-FINE-est?  DEF-innest?

    This is my siggy.

My best guess would be Da-finest. Indifferent Sister's name is Adorable.

  • I wish I was.

...Shortly before 1 a.m., Jones pulled down 3-year-old Adorable R_____ and shielded her as bullets shattered a window, R_____ said her 10-year-old son told her.

Several bullets hit Jones in the chest and neck. Police said Adorable R_____ was injured by flying glass but a hospital report that the family provided said she suffered a gunshot wound. Her family said her right arm was grazed by a bullet.

The child?s 2-year-old brother, Definest R_____, was hit in the right cheek by shattered glass, his family said.

  • Also, the photo in the article shows him holding a can of Mt. Dew. 2yo.
  • I'm Indifferent at both the names and at the excerpt from the story you posted.
    Oh, FFS.
  • I know this is America and land of the free and all that but I'm just saying, in some countries, you're not allowed to give your kid a stupid name. Maybe it's not the worst idea in the world. It's certainly not as bad as the idea that starts with "OMG we should name our spawn Definest!"

You know, it sounds horrible, but the people I imagined giving their children these names are exactly the parents I imagine engaging in a gun battle with their toddlers at 1 a.m.

If that was my name, I'd insist on being called Dee.

  • Ugh - this reminds me that my cousin's just posted about their new baby. The name was a male name spelled with a y and not i so people were so confused whether they had a boy or girl. It had to be clarified.

yes you're right. it does sound horrible. How can what someone names their child cause you to think that the parents would engage in a gun fight?

If you knew better, you'd do better.
  • Because they're clearly idiots. The only people who I can think of who would get into gun fights AT ALL, with toddlers involved or not, are morons. Those are also the only people who I can think of that would name their children stupidass names like Adorable and Definest. The. . End.

  • well hmmm..from the part of the article that OP posted...it didnt suggest that the parents shot back. its said they shielded the child from the bullets. such idiots.
anyone could get shot at. no matter where you go.

If you knew better, you'd do better.

Exactly.   And you're right, anyone can theoretically get shot.   But at 1 a.m., my kids are sleeping in their beds, not sitting in an idling van outside a house presumably in a dangerous neighborhood with a man they happened to pick up off the streets to give a ride to.   And the kids' cousin, a 20-month old toddler, was killed by gunfire during a previous instance while he was strapped in his carseat in an idling car, presumably in a bad neighborhood.   That one was a gang fight.   So yeah, idiots.

    Anyone? Sure.

Anywhere? Eh. Not so much. I suppose it's possible, but it's not probable. You're one of those people that are worried about contracting HIV from an elevator button that someone may have touched yesterday with a cut on their finger, aren't you? The risk is just not the same in all locations.

I agree with everything that muddled said. You should listen to her. -ESDReturns
  • yes anywhere...I had a friend who was shot at/around a school playground.  I wouldnt even say it was a bad area. He was walking home from work and he was shot and killed.  Nothing that I know of provoked it either.

and no I'm far from being one of those people who think you can get HIV from an elevator button.  I'm not "scared" of things happening. I just know that random bad things DO happen..and you cant say that someones name leads you to think that that they are the "type" of person to be in a situation.

If you knew better, you'd do better.
