I am SO going to overpack for baby.

I don't think there's any way around it.  She has a TON of cute summery clothes for the time we'll be in Oz (2 months) that won't fit her by the time summer hits here. (well, the way around it is to have her miss wearing the super cute clothes she already has, lol)

I think I need to pack most of them and just leave them there after if I need to. It sounds like ILs have been going nuts on pressies for her anyway so I wanted to take less but as I start to sort it out, there are a lot of things I'd like to have her wear.

I also think she's going to hit the transition from 3 mo clothes to 6 mo while we're over so I'm having a hard time figuring out if I should leave some behind. She still fits some 0-3 month clothes right now, but she's tall and skinny.

I won't be able to fit the usual plethora of presents I normally bring for niece and nephews esp since Virgin Australia has a 1 bag limit.  Normally, we take 1.5 bags w/ our clothes and shoes for 2 months of travel and then the rest are all presents for the kiddos since shiit in Australia is so much more pricey.

I'm packing a bunch of her bottles and any pumping equipment I need b/c HOLY CRAP things are pricey. I checked out a few things in case I could just buy there.  Lanisoh freezer bags for milk are 75/$12 here on Amazon. There, the cheapest I found was $19 for 25 bags - nearly $1/bag!  Sorry Aussie mums, that really has to suck to buy stuff there!

  • Hi TDK! I'm not on here much anymore but just wanted to say hello and congratulations on your little one! She's darling.

We took DD to Australia when she was just around the same age as your daughter. I bought a ton of clothes while I was there because it was the change of seasons so I made out.

Just found out we're actually heading to Sydney in May (for an extended visit as well)- exciting!

Have a great few month back in OZ, enjoy!

  • overpacking isn't a bad thing :) Yea just bring everything you think you'll need and if you have to buy clothes here there are places that are reasonble. Hit Big W and especially Target - they do really nice kids clothes for reasonable. Granted reasonable prices for us are still more than in the US of course.

I just saw the cozy coupe my parents bought dd in the US for xmas (and brought it here when they came for xmas) they paid $50 and its selling for $150 here!!! gosh - everything is SO marked up - ridiculous!

  • I've an Irish friend living in Sydney and she can't get over the price of things there... like formula... and clothes... and even just the choice of clothes... but she found this site good for some basics and cute things (clothes wise...)

  • Thanks Kahleo!  Yay for the May trip!  Where are you living nowadays?

And lol - Monique, I don't think I'll need to buy more clothes there.  I have a feeling MIL and SILs have already been going nuts w/ clothes for her and while I could probably even arrive w/ hardly any for her, I really just want to bring them b/c I already have a ton that were given to us that are SO cute and I want her to get a chance to wear them while she's the right size! I was glad we took that Miami trip in the winter so she had a chance to wear some of the tiny summery clothes we had! She was too small the whole time it was warm enough here for them.  I've been putting long sleeved onesies under some of them just so I can see her in the cute outfits! ;)

It's more the pumping supplies I want to avoid purchasing while over.  holy moly.  A medela freestyle is like $600?  I think it was 200-300 here.
