My Motivation....

Is at ZERO this week.  IDK what is wrong with me...I have a ton of things to get done at work.  I come in with good intentions.  I start out strong....then I fade out.  Sigh.  I feel like such a slacker this week.  Anyone else have anything interesting going on, or to talk about?

Re: My Motivation....

  • I have been milking my wisdom teeth pain for 1 week now.

No gym motivation, "er, the pressure will make it hurt more"
No work motivation, "I can't think with this toothache"
No home motivation, "DH take care of me, I'm weak"

What?! Men do it, why can't I.

FWIW, Monday was the most depressing day of the year according to someone who studied that. It's the weather, the time of year, we're all in a funk.

You're okay, as long as you pull out of it. :)

  • When I had my Wisdom Teeth out...it was a total nightmare.  I put it off for years because I knew it would be a nightmare and finally had it done in August of 2010.

They tried 4 times to put in the IV and couldn't. (They had to knock me out because they were impacted, I guess sometimes they don't.)  Then they gave me laughing gas and got the IV in on the 5th try.  About 10 minutes later, the Dentist knocked the IV out of my wrist on accident and I woke up.  He told me they couldn't get an IV to stay in (WTF!) and either needed to continue on with the surgery without it and just the gas or else I would need to come back. (Being groggy from the anesthesia I told him to go ahead on because I would not be coming back.)

So then, while I was completely awake, the proceeded to extract all 4 (they had to break each one and take it out in peices).  While I was sitting in the chair crying the nurse was like "Oh, honey, you are handling this so well.  You should have your children natural, you'll be fine." (again, WTF?).

When it was over and I was home I vomited for almost 24 hours straight (turned out I was allergic to the pain med they prescribed) and by the time I went to my follow up a week later, I could still barely open my mouth.  When I asked the dentist about it he was like, "Oh yeah, I had to sliver off some of your muscle to get to the teeth, so your jaw will take longer to heal."   A.  I have never heard of that and B. It seems like that would have been good to know a week ago!

     Wisdom Teeth are the devil!

It's good to know that Monday can be blamed for my funk. :)

  • Okay that entire scenario sounds horrid! OMG! I would have reported that sh*t.

I went nighty night and woke up in recovery, it was so nice.

A guy at work told me that his mouth wouldn't open wide enough for them to get his out so they had to cut his mouth at each corner to provide for extra space. WTF!! I never heard of that, he swears that it happened and then they stitched him up and it was the first time in his life he ever grew a beard.

And people wonder why there is dental anxiety.

  • That is why I didn't tell you about it before your surgery. :)  I hate going to the dentist and refused to go for like 5 years, then when I went they referred me to get my Wisdom teeth out.  It was an Oral Surgeon I was referred to, not the regular dentist.  It traumatized me against the dentist even more than I already was.
  • OMG Sarah!

You're right, Trickey, it's no wonder people hate the Dentist.  My worst dental story is my botched root canal.  I felt every scrape and tug b/c the novocaine wasn't working.  Turns out I had an infection in there (not unusual) and it alters the Ph so the kind of novocaine he was using didn't react correctly.  He packed it with meds and I had to come BACK to have him finish.

Turns out, 5 years later, that the infection wasn't all the way gone. Meanwhile, I had ceased going to the Dentist after that experience.  So, I woke up with a pain that was just about as bad as labor (only pounding in my head) and had no Dentist.  I ended up calling my Mom's dentist who saw me that day.  It was completely infected under the former root canal (which should not happen if done correctly).  I had to have the root canal RE-DONE.  It was a nightmare.

I will say though that I now only have that kind of work done by Specialists (endodontists).  My second experience was no biggie at all.

Related, I've since found out that novocaine isn't always effective on me.  I went to the Dentist this past weekend to finish a crown and an hour and 3 shots later I was 'numb enough' for him to do his thing since he wasn't drilling on my real tooth.  I was completely not numb 10 mins after leaving his office.  He says he's never seen anything like it.  It's either my anatomy or my metabolism/chemistry or something.
