Tri-Nessa?

I ran over to CVS last night to pick up a new rx for Ortho Tricyclen Lo, and it was $70.  I decided to bag it, and had my doctor call in a new rx for the generic equivalent Tri-Nessa.  The generic is only $15/mo.

I read some reviews on Tri-Nessa today, and the majority of the them are horrible.  Now I'm starting to feel like cheaping out on BC was a bad move, but I really don't want to call my doctor AGAIN.  It was a nightmare today, going back and forth with the doctor's office and Aetna, trying to find a suitable replacement.

Anyway, I was just curious if any one here has any first hand experiance with Tri-Nessa?

TIA!

Re: Tri-Nessa?

  • Not the same, but I took Ortho Tri-cyclin many years ago & was switched to the generic Tri-Sprintic and didn't notice any difference.

Is mail order an option for you? I have BCBS Federal Option and I get my Lo Loestrin via mail order. I get a 3-cycle supply for one co-pay ($70).

    Sorry I'm not much help.

  • What did the reviews say - were they related to the hormones and thus would apply to the branded as well?

I second the mail order option - it usually saves a lot of money.

and I know it was a nightmare to go back and forth for a new prescription, but you are your best health advocate - if you aren't happy with your prescription, change it! you might annoy someone but ultimately you are taking this pill every day and that's more important (in my opinion).

  • What have you read? I've been on it for awhile now with no issues. Doc said it was fine to take as well.
  • There were a ton of complaints about moodiness, lack of sex drive, weight gain, etc....  Everything was great when they were on Ortho, but took a dive when they switched to the generic.

I wasn't worried about it until I started reading the reviews.  I'll give it a few months and try it out.

I have no experience with this and it doesn't help you at this moment, but there is a new law going into effect next year that mandates that health insurance companies cover contraceptives 100% w/o copay.

  • I haven't taken either one of those pills, but when my pill went generic, I switched and had no issues whatsoever.  I also did mail-order and it cost me practically nothing for the generic that way.  I say try it.  You can always switch back.  I switched pills several times in the 10 years I tookd BCPs.  I always asked for samples from my GYN too :)

Hmmm....moodiness, I am sure Ryan can go on about that! lol. Nothing else though. I lost 30 lbs. while on trinessa (not because of it but I was able to lose a lot of weight).
