I applied for 3 jobs in the last 2 weeks, all at the university. I have an interview tomorrow afternoon for Job 1. This is my third choice out of the three. They seem to be moving quite a bit quicker than the other two and I am concerned that if I do well, they may offer me the job before I've heard from the other two on even getting an interview.
I would like to ask the other two jobs for a timeline of when they expect to call candidates to set up interviews. Is this appropriate?
I've started an email to send tomorrow morning: "Dear contact, My name is lust2hart. I recently applied for position and I'm writing to see if you have a timeline for when you'll be contacting candidates to arrange interviews. I have another job interview this afternoon but am more interested in this position, so I would like to..."
And that's where I get hung up. I would like to...what? Basically, I want to know if I have a shot of getting an interview with these guys, but I don't know how to say that.
Should I wait until AFTER the interview, if I feel like it went well and then say "I interviewed for another position but am more interested in this one and would like to know if there's a chance I may be able to interview with you soon" ??

Ditto pp. Then you can word it as, "I have an offer from Job 1, but I am interested in Job 2/3 [and give a couple of reasons why]. I would like to know your timeline for interviews."
And I'd call, not e-mail, if possible.

I guess I'm just nervous because I know how long the hiring process can take at a university. I know that if I get an offer from Job 1 before even interviewing for Jobs 2/3, there's no way the process for Jobs 2/3 will move quickly enough for me to have a shot at them. Whereas I wonder if I were to call before receiving an offer, if maybe those extra 2 or 3 days might make a difference in them being able to speed up their process if they're considering interviewing me.
