shampoo & conditioner

what kind do you use? do you like it?

reason i am asking - every 3-6 months (or so), my hair seems to get "used" to whatever shampoo/conditioner i am using. there seems to be nothing i can do to get the conditioner fully out of my hair. i've used expensive shampoos (i.e. bumble and bumble) and not expensive ones (i.e. suave). it happens with all of them. does anyone else have this issue? or is it just me? i guess i just need to start rotating. i had to spray dry shampoo in my hair this morning because it looked all greasy and i had just washed it. Tongue Tied

Re: shampoo & conditioner

  • Start shampooing on your regular schedule, but only use conditioner every other to every 3rd washing. You're probably using too much conditioner and your hair type/scalp doesn't need it.

I use Redken All Soft S+C and Redken Smooth Down Butter treat EVERY time. But I have some HAAAAAAAIR to condition. Its naturally coarse/wavy so I need the heavy weight.

If it starts looking weighted/greasy before my next shampoo I will comb in some baby powder. It makes that last day not look so oily.

  • I used to have this problem but I don't really anymore.  I've been a cheapo suave girl for years now.  I use their humectant kind.  I only wash/condition every other day.

  • I have this same problem but on a weekly basis. For me it is the conditioner now I just wash my hair with shampoo and use a spray conditioner when I'm out of the shower. It's the only way I don't look like a greasy sea otter.

I also use different shampoos every time I shower, I have 3 kinds. :( My hair takes maintenance.

  • Maybe you need a lighter conditioner? Maybe one that's for volume, as those are supposed to be lighter. Maybe a light leave-in?

I've yet to find the right s&c for me. I have fine, thin hair that has to be washed daily. I tried a variety of options a few months ago and when my current bottles that are just "OK" run out (B&B - too $$ to toss!), I'll be searching again. I kept trying different volumizing ones, but they left my hair frizzy. Or at least, I thought they did. Now I know my dryer was a factor in that and I'll have to start over.

  • i, too, have to wash my hair daily. maybe i'll try to find some spray in conditioner. i hate trying to brush my hair with all kinds of tangle...don't want to pull all of my hair out!
  • I think a spray-on/leave-in conditioner would definitely be worth a shot for you. I think many of them are labeled as detanglers too. If you use heat to style, look for one with heat protection too.
