Re: Moms and moms to be...

  • Mine is still set to private, but here is what I have. I am not doing any towels, burp clothes, clothes or anything like that because I am going to get GOBS from my sisters. We do have a lot of similar stuff, though!

Edit: That looked like crap. I just took my registry public because of you! Haha! : )

  • Since we're FB friends you know my full name, and I have registries set up at BRU and Buy Buy Baby. My husband is David and EDD is 4/21/12 so you should be able to find me.

I'm having a small shower (20ish people), so I tried to stick with things that I really need pretty soon after the baby's born rather than everything I'll need for the first year.

As an aside, as far as I know my shower invites aren't out yet (it's on 2/26), and I've noticed a couple things are already purchased from my registry! It's fun to be registry stalking again :)

  • Mine is on Babies R Us and Target if you just search my name. We also used the book Baby Bargains to research just about everything before we made a decision. It rates every product you can think of with a letter grade and gives a lot of good info.

    A couple things:

    1) Every parent I know who has tried the Dr. Brown's bottles hates them. They have too many parts that all have to be cleaned and put together properly. We had them on our registry and took them off after we heard this too many times. We now have the Born Free bottles. The other advantage to these is that they were never made with BPA, whereas with the other brands if there are old ones on the shelf you might end up with them and never know it.

    2) We've heard great things about the diaper genie and have registered for one. All our parent friends say it's definitely worth it to get this one in particular.

    3) We have cloth diapers on ours as well, we've heard they make great burp cloths. Not so pretty as some others but they were made to be absorbent.

    4) I don't see a changing pad or covers. Didn't know if you missed it or just aren't getting one.

    5) Are you getting a swing or something of the sort? All our friend and family swear by this:  http://www.target.com/p/Fisher-Price-Newborn-Rock-n-Play-Sleeper-Split-Rings/-/A-13270122. It's all my nieces would sleep in for weeks.

  • Danie, your nursery is going to be so adorable! I love Winnie the Pooh and I will need pictures as soon as you get it all put together.

I have heard the same about Doctor Brown's. I am going to start with Evenflow glass bottles. I know I want to do glass, and those are rather cheap, so if I hate them, oh well.

Diaper Genie is the most amazing thing ever (per changing lots of nieces diapers...)

I am getting my sister's Rock 'N Play...otherwise one would be on there. She LOVED hers!

I have the Kiinde Kozii bottle/baby food warmer on mine, because it is the only one that can safely defrost breast milk without breaking down the nutrients. A little more expensive, but from what I have heard, it is amaze-balls!

  • I have also heard amazing things about the Rock N' Play. As far as bottles, what I was told was not to register for too many of one kind because you don't know what you and your baby will like best. I registered for a starter kit of the Avent ones since they get good reviews but are supposedly less annoying than the Dr. Browns, but I am fully prepared to try out different brands if those don't work out for some reason.

Now I want to look up that bottle warmer too... I like the idea of having one that can warm up breast milk!

I had heard the same thing about not buying just one type of bottle, but the nurse that taught our baby basics class said that's not true. She said it has more to do with the nipple flow than the actual bottle and babies aren't really that particular. None of our friends or family have said anything about having to buy new bottles either. I'm not really sure what to believe anymore, but we just registered for one type and I guess we'll see!

  • I'm interested to hear what you all think about the diaper genie. I hope theyt have made amazing changes since I last babysat but those things did NOT trap any smells. Our bff just uses the bags from the newspaper or from the supermarket (I put my meat in a plastic bag) and tosses them right out to the trash can if its a poop diaper. If not she puts it in the regular garbage with no issue. Anyway I'm interested to know the improvements. I just remember hating to open the lid to put in a new diaper because a huge wiff of smell would come out! Gross!

I have never smelled anything when I am at either of my sister's...even when I open it. I think it helps that they take it out every few days. I am sure if it sat there for more than three days, it would start to smell. I just liked that it was right there. When there is a blowout (haha) it is nice to just shove the diaper and wipes in there. : )

  • Here is my registry: http://www.toysrus.com/registry/search/index.jsp?_flowExecutionKey=_c19CDB61B-CB27-E003-5EC8-3D776A55C32E_k4A1BD5FA-8236-95E9-AA12-65A00695F2A2&overrideStore=TRUS

I did a ton of research before I went and registered so most of it is the most popular/top rated items as far as safety goes. Also, check out lucieslist.com. She has a ton of good info

    1) huh. I personally LOVE the dr. browns bottles and recommend them to everyone but I also have a baby that spits up a ton and I noticed a difference when we switched to dr. brown's. To each their own I suppose lol

     2) Ditto on the diaper genie. I LOVE ours. the refills are sort of expensive but I try to catch them when they are on sale. Totally worth every penny to not have a stinky trash can.

     3) We use cloth diapers as burp cloths. We tried normal burp cloths and I actually prefer cloth diapers.

     4) We had a changing pad cover and it makes the nursery cute but it is SO annoying. Natalie is a huge squirmer so I find myself always having to put the changing pad back on every time I change her because it pops off one of the corners.

     5) GET THIS. I can not stress this enough lol. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the rock n play. Natalie spits up a ton and the day we bought this was the first time she slept through the night and she has been sleeping through the night ever since and there has been a big change in how much she spits up when we lay her down.
