Washing machine -- top loader vs. front loader
Which style do you prefer and why? My H reminded me that I need to stop dragging my feet about getting a new washer, but I just don't have the patience to do research beyond asking you guys what I should get. I think the front loaders are prettier, but I don't know much more about them than that.
I'd especially love to hear from the few of you who do cloth diapering and if you have a preference for one style over the other.

Oooh, ooh! I'm good at this one. We CD and we started with a top loader and now we use a front.
I prefer the top for CD to be honest, because it's much easier to soak them if they get stinky. With the front, it doesn't use enough water to soak well and with the top load I can fill it up and lift the top to let it soak, and then lower the top every now and then to let it agitate for a bit.
Also, the front load gets kinda stinky/mildewy. I use the tide front load cleaner every month and that helps a lot. I think they both clean well, it's just the soak factor that has me on the fence.
ETA: edited to make sense. The front doesn't use enough water for soaking, not the top.
THIS!!! We have soft water and with our front load we literally cannot use more than like a Tbsp of detergent or it won't rinse out well. Which is fine, but kinda presented a bit of a learning curve. It's easy to overdo.
TOP LOADER! A thousand times top loader.
Front loaders never really dry out and stank like mildew very easily. it's so gross. You have to buy tablets to wash your washing machine.

I like the top loaders better.
And they are generally preferred for CDing hands down.
Due to space constraints, we had no choice but a stackable front loader in our last rental apt and now in the apt we own (or get the old skool stacked machine with piddly capacity...with a kid, no thank you).
We had a GE in our rental, and now we have a Bosch. I like it. Energy costs are way cheaper. We've had ours since June, haven't washed it, don't notice stinkiness. It's got lots of different cycles, so if I've got soiled crib bedding, I put it on the baby care or extra sanitary cycle. it may take 3 hours but it gets EVERYTHING out.
I'm sure it will be a biatch to repair when the time comes, but hopefully it will last long enough that it won't be our problem to deal with then. (Where we live, W/D stay with the apt when you sell).

We got one of the LG top-loaders without the agitator, and it's the sh!t. It's fully automatic when setting cycles, and senses the weight of what you have in there to determine how much water to use. I know you probably think that I must be a stoner to admit this, but it's so cook to watch how it works, they even gave it a glass top. The spin cycle can go so fast you need less drying time. I'm telling you, the thing does everything but fluff and fold.

My laziness is rewarded! I had heard about front loaders getting a mildewy smell if you didn't leave the door open between washings, but we have that problem with our top loader anyway. It's good to know that there are more reasons beyond that to go with a top loader. It's a shame though....they're so pretty.
Now just tell me exactly what model to buy and I'll go do it.

Yeah, that's what happened with ours. It was giving me some error code that I had to Google, and the electronic panel was busted. And out of warranty. It was cheaper for our landlord to buy us a brand new barebones Kenmore toploader than to repair the panel.

I have a Kenmore. I have had it for years, like seriously about 8 or 9 years. I have had to do a repair once that cost like 50 bucks.
I am sure the model no longer exists but I highly highly recommend Kenmore.
It has the temperature setting wash thing that is supposed to help keep the bill down. But I wash everything in cold anyway.
