I can not believe I just did that!
Ok short back story, we went on vaction to FL and was gone a week.
Now before I left I paid the electric and gas bill. So this morning I woke up and its freezing in the house and the heater is not turning on, the pilot light was out and so I called them to ask to come out and light it for me. (I have a fear of getting blown up). She said that the gas had been turned off for non payment. They do not send out notices and after a certain day of not paying they shut it off no questions asked. So I told the lady that I had dropped the payment off on the overnight box. The lady said they had not gotten it. So I go to my folder to see what day I dropped it off, and there sat the check and the bill.
I feel like such a dork. So I hurried up and paid the bill plus a reconnect fee. I also set up automatic payments so I do not have this issue again. Now I am going to sit here with my 5 blankets and keep warm till they get here about 2 to get it back on for me.
Moral of the story, do not forget to drop off all your bills when out paying them!

This is a very small town (the school is 1 building that houses PreK-12th grade) and on the bill itself says, "there will be no disconnect notice, if bills are not paid by the 21st lines will be disconnected". I believe because this is such a small town and they have been burned in the past they do not play around. There are alot of people around here that do not have electric or gas they just use wood fire places. It is also just not a good town, there are least a drug bust every week.
I am thankful that we are only here a little bit and will be moving not to long from now.
Our gas is now back on, and its cranked up lol.

I've done that before. I paid the electric bill before we left to go out of town. We came back to a dark, hot house in the middle of summer. My mail included the electric bill sent back for no stamp. I felt like a dumb butt.
Don't feel bad. We all do something similar at least once.
