recipes

I've been trying to eat better in addition to working out my hot body, so I went whoring off to the What's Cooking board. I don't know if I'm a Sally Come Lately, or what, but there is a chick over there that seems to know her shnitzle. She also likes to take jabs at her husband in every entry, it seems, but the recipes look fantastic. I got lost in it for hours last night.

Re: recipes

  • She does jab at him. I wonder what that is about.
  • Man, I love me some fried pickles.

me too. I prefer spears over chips though.

The Jewish deli near me makes them with the semi dill pickles and I need to leave work right now and go to there.

  • You guys, this girl got me to buy kale just from reading her blog.
    Kale!
  • Roasted kale is goooood.

    Ooo so are kale dumplings!

I'll eat the *** out of some kale.

Damn you HEZZ. I am hungry.

  • Kale may be my very favorite vegetable.

  • I love kale in soup.
  • I want to know why she makes all the snide remarks about Mr Prevention too! I had to stop reading, I hate when people put their SO down in front of other people. Hmph.

    I love kale, too.

Yeah we stopped going to a play group because the organizer did this to her husband. It was so awkward.

I ended a friendship (in part) because of this. I'll never forget, my mom had JUST died and my friend was standing in my mom's family room loudly bittching her husband out over the phone in front of my aunts and cousins. I assume people like that think it comes off funny/cool/cute.

  • Also LOVE kale. Now intrigued by the idea of kale dumplings. Angie are these like what you meant?

  • We used to use Kale as decor in the salad bar at the pizza place I worked at.  I don't think I would ever consider using it as food.

  • Yeah Mod! I didn't know there was a recipe out there for them. I make big batches of them for Charlotte and freeze. Good stuff.

  • Fitty, did you ever watch Caprial and John while you were here? I don't think it'd be funny IRL, but it was really amusing on a cooking show for some reason.

Cali, try it after a frost. Before a frost it tends to be leathery and bitter, but after a frost it releases kind of a natural anti-freeze that makes it tender and sweetish.

Hezz, I have a rocking and simple kale and white bean soup if you want the recipe.

  • I dont even know what kale is. Where can I try some without having to prepare a lot of it myself?
  • It's a leafy green that you use pretty much like chard, but has a similar consistency to bok choy.

This is a good time of year to try it. If you're feeling lazy TJ's carries it washed and chopped in the salad section. Toss it with garlic and olive oil and saut?.

Way to compare it to things that I also have no knowledge of! Wink

I also have no TJs. Sad

  • It's definitely in your produce section near the lettuce. They might have it prebagged or bunched up like romaine hearts. I'm excited to cook with it, so far I've just chopped it up like parsley and sprinkled it over my salad. Bitter but satisfying.

Mouse, I'll take your recipe for sure! Thanks!!

Hezz - take the rib out, toss the leaves with a tiny bit of olive oil and sprinkle some salt on it and roast  at 300 for like 20 minutes or so, turning once.

    YUM
