Really dumb uterus question

I am so out of touch with my body.  I have been on some form of birth control for probably 8 years now...  I didn't refill my prescription in December because they send three months worth and I would've only used one month to get through the surgery.

Over the weekend I noticed some spotting and chalked it up to the sexy time since it happens from time to time.  I was just sitting here and it hit me that truthfully my period should be coming in the next week or so... and that I should probably put some tampons in my purse since things are more unpredictable.  Man, it's been such a long time since I've even had to think about this!  I feel like such a tween.

So since I'm such a tween - long before I was on BC, I could count 28 days from the end of my period and that's about when I would start my period again.  TCOYF says normal cycles are 28 days from the beginning of your period.  So I guess that means my cycles are ~35 days?

Granted that being over 8 years ago, my body may have kicked that habit and the little uterus fairies are deciding on a new schedule...but until they give me that schedule, let's go with this, yes?

Re: Really dumb uterus question

  • You start counting the first day of your cycle when your period starts, not any spotting before. I spot 2-3 days before I start.

When I first got off BC, almost 2 yrs ago, my cycles were 33-35 days. Now they are around 28-30 days. I have an app on my phone where I track my spotting, CM, sexy time and periods.

  • I wouldn't expect any sort of normalcy just coming off bc and having such a drastic surgery. Just keep track for a while and you'll figure out your new normal.
  • Which app do you use? I should check it out.
  • Fertility friend has an app that I use. If you chart later, you can use it for that too.

That is the one I use. I'm too lazy to chart though.

  • Yep, you count your cycles beginning with the first day of your period, but it's completely normal for the length to vary from person to person and even from cycle to cycle.  Mine is always unpredictable, ranging anywhere between 27 and 52 days since I started keeping track almost 3 years ago.  You might not experience a predictable cycle length for a while after being on BC for so long; but then again, it's possible that you might, too.  It's a crapshoot... but all pretty normal.  Ha!

ETA:  I third the FertilityFriend.com recommendations.  It's very helpful.
