4th birthday party menu

The birthday boy has requested hot dogs, pizza, and fries/tater tots(he keeps changing his mind on which one he wants)    I also need to feed the parents.   So I'm planning on

Hot dogs

Mini bite sized pizzas(like bagel bites sized...but I'll be making them myself)

Fries or tots

Some sort of fruit(most likely on skewers like an edible arrangement since kids love food on a stick)

Tossed salad

A pasta salad

Tray of pinwheel wraps for the adults(mixed tray from grocery store..has ham, turkey, roasted veggies, and roast beef wraps)

I'll also have pretzels, chips and salsa and a veggie tray to munch on before we eat.

Dessert will be cake and sugar cookies for the kids to decorate(train shaped...once again this is DS's request)

What do you think?   He wants a train party and I've figured out how I am going to decorate without having it look like Thomas exploded in my house(using a light blue and red color scheme and ordering a printable party package on Etsy)    I also will make a train themed cake.

Re: 4th birthday party menu

  • Is this for a lunch party? If so I think the menu looks pretty good. The adults will probably pick at some of the kid food too so you don't need to go too overboard finding things for them.
  • I think it sounds fine.  My only thought is 4 year olds with skewers could be a bit dangerous.

We did a train theme for my kid last year.  I just put some of his toy trains on the tables for centerpieces and made one of Wilton's puzzle cake.  This was the second cake I'd ever decorated in my life and it was pretty easy.  You can revamp it inyo different cakes later too.

  • I read that as 40th birthday...LOL

  • I think the menu looks good as is - appropriate for a child's b-day party and plenty for the adults too.  I agree with a pp about kids with skewers though... I'm thinking long wooden kabob sticks and 4yo's running around on a sugar high... maybe there's a flexible alternative of some kind?

    so did I at first!!.

Everything sounds just right for a 4yo.  His cookie idea is great!

  • It sounds good to me.  The only thing I would worry about would be keeping the fries/tots fresh.  It might just be my family that makes a staggered entrance.  I might try to find skewers that aren't as sharp on the end.

Good point.  If you deep fry them it will be a last minute deal and that is really hectic with a bunch of 4 yr olds running around.
