my newest craft inspiration... PIP

Now that we are almost done with the first tri I want to start crafting for the baby... where do I start? Thanks to Pinterest I have a list the length of my arm. Any ideas to get me started? what can I make that I will actually use? Baby is due in August so I don't need winter stuff right away. I sew and can knit but have never tried a knit pattern so i'll probably stick with sewing.
THANKS!
Our little hippo was as impatient as mom!
Hoping for a full 40 weeks!!

I don't know how to crochet. If I can knit is it easy to pick up? I'm not in the learning new things phase right now... unless they are easy
Congrats! Crocheting is totally easy. Get a hook and watch some videos on YouTube. I managed to learn and make a basic hat in 5 hours. I have forgotten how to finish it though so there's that lol.

You should make a lot of burp cloths out of the cheap Gerber cloth diapers and flannel (sew rights sides together, flip right side out, top stitch).
Sewing your own crib skirt is really easy. I have made two different ones from an Amy Butler pattern. You don't really need one of those fancy sets of crib bedding since you are not to use bumper pads anyway (I will step off my soap box).
A nice square blanket/mat for on the floor with Minkee on one side and fleece or flannel on the other.
Bibs, bibs, and more bibs. Either knit them out of yarn such as Peaches and Cream cotton or sew them. My computer crashed and I lost the bookmark but I had a favorite bib pattern tutorial that I used for bibs. I made them out of flannel on one side and chopped up bath towel on the other...bib tip...make them extra long, when they are self feeding you will understand.

Here is the bib tutorial
Already been said... but LOTS of burp cloths. You can never have too many
I am in the process of making a quilt, I started when I was around 20wks and found out I was having a boy, I haven't finished it yet though as he arrived early and I did a bunch of hand sewing on it - it's going on the wall... Im not very good at making things simple
You could do floor quilts/ mats we find them useful to play on, and to take elsewhere to play on.
Im going to make some cushion/ throw pillow covers..... on my to do list!
Im going to make some kind of canvas storage buckets for toys....
You could make curtains or any other material decor!
You are starting earlier than I did though... I wish we started as early I would have maybe got things done and finished! DS will be 6 months next week and I haven't finished his nursery yet! He's still in our room anyway.....
Thanks everyone!!! So bibs and burp clothes. Are you saying my kid is going to be messy??? ;-)
Not doing a bumper... No need to step off the soap box. I agree.
We are starting early because we aren't finding out the gender so everything will be neutral anyway. I'm going to have to take a trip for some fabric and get moving!
Thanks SP! I didn't think of a nursing cover!
Oops I forgot to say congratulations yesterday... I have sleepy baby brain...
And yes, even if your kid isn't a huge spitter upper... s/he will still be messy
Especially when you start "solid" food.
Ive brought far too much material from fabric.com. I have a lot in a pile in our dining room. I should really go and craft but I know DS is going to wake up soon....
Thank you! that is exactly why I want to get started now... I know I won't get anything done after the baby is here!
