Hi, from posts on here I've picked up that you work in architecture.  Would you have any rough ballpark estimates on what the average price per sq. foot would be to build a house, or what the range would be?  Nothing too fancy or high end, the house would be ~2100 sq ft or so.  I know I need to get a definite estimate from a builder but thought I might ask to see.  Thanks!

Re: **MrsKizdoodle**

  • I would say $200 a square foot would be a good average to use for a rough estimate.

It could certainly be done for less but $200 is probably average using decent materials (no vinyl floors, laminate countertops, hollow core doors, or vinyl siding for example.)  Appliances and bathroom fixtures can also really bust a budget - that is where a good chunk of your money often goes.  But keep in mind you could do a $2,000 appliance suite from Home Depot or a $35,000 Wolf/Viking/SubZero suite.  Lots of factors apply.

    $150/sq ft = $315,000

    $200/sq ft = $420,000

    $300/sq ft = $630,000

My firm averages about $300/sq ft but we use high end products.  It really depends on what you choose for materials.

    Good luck!  :-)
