Did you give a gift to your Realtor or receive one?

Re: Did you give a gift to your Realtor or receive one?

  • i also sent a thank-you card to his office and let him know what a wonderful job i thought he did. you could send a gift but remember they will recieve a commision check for your sale/purchase
  • Ditto pp.  The best gift you can give your realtor is a referral for future business.  Considering they are getting commission for helping you anything else really isn't necessary.
  • We received a gift and I've referred business to him.  He sold our old home and bought our new one so his commissions were plenty (the seller of our new house obviously paid the commission but i count it as a payment to him since he received 3% or whatever),

  • Neither.

Then again, our REA was kind of a tool.

  • Well, for one, she made a LOT of money off of us, so... I probably wouldn't have been all that inclined to get an actual gift.

But, to add, we ended up being SO unhappy w/ our realtor.  The day we closed, we were chomping at the bit to just get away from her.  There were no hugs, no "YAY!!!" w/ her, etc.  We just wanted to get away.

She gave us a $100 GC to a local restaurant.  That redeemed her a TINY bit, but not enough to ever get any referals from us.

  • We received a gift (a really nice engraved cutting board), and have given her multiple referrals. We also plan to have her and her husband over for dinner once it gets nice out.
  • We didn't give our realtor a gift; she received her commission, plus I wrote a letter of recommendation she could use on her website/marketing materials.

She did give us two gifts.  First was a bottle of champagne she gave us the day we closed.  She also had a personalized cutting board (with our last name on it) sent to the house a few weeks later.

  • Our realtor gave us 2 bottles of red wine...as nice a gesture as it was, we dont drink red wine. Having said that we had a wonderful experience with our realtor who in the beginning wasnt even planning on us buying for a good long time. He took us to house showings knowing full well we were not planning on buying for another year and had a very limited budget, but he said he enjoys working with first time buys and that he loves finding awesome deals and was happy that we have some time to sit on anything we do like and see if prices go down. Hes also really fun to be around and we will deffinatly be giving him any referals we can. Also we plan on inviting him and his wife over after the wedding (since right now only FI lives in the house), and he does drop by now and then and has become friends with FI and is helping him with contacts for services we need to finish the basement since he knows the area and we moved from nearby city. We didn't give him a gift, but hes definatly got our commitment for life if we ever want to up-size, and refferals from us!
  • With the first house I bought, I didn't have an agent that I worked with -- I used the seller's agent.  So he made an extra 3% the day I showed up to see the house without any real effort.  He was an immense jerk, and I didn't give him anything.  He likewise gave no gift to me.

This time around, my realtor has been working with me for 9 months.  I'll probably give her a gift certificate, and I would happily refer to her to anyone looking to buy in my area.  I also sent her a Christmas present last month.

  • We bought a house from our realtor that he and an investor had flipped. I considered that gift enough for him.  And he did nothing for us, although I wasn't too surprised by that as he is a bit flighty.
  • Well, we used red fin so they gave us 1.5% back at closing and we gave her a 5 star review so she gets commission.

  • I've never had a dealing with a realtor but when my sister sold/bought with the same realtor HE gave her a gift card to a local restaurant.
  • I'm in the early stages - but I've done some research and based on what it seems that realtors make, how many houses our guy sells annually, and the price of the houses that he sells...yeah...I think he is rewarded plenty!!
  • Our agent is wonderful and has really gone above and beyond for us.  When we finally close I will send a large floral arrangement to her office along with a thank you card, but I think her real gift will be the referrals that we plan to send her way.
