Why Are You Working THERE?

Why are you at your current job?

(Not, "I need the money for bills", but why that specific job.)

Re: Why Are You Working THERE?

  • The job I have now, I got because I was trying to get out of a shi**y job.  My old boss was an a$$ and I was treated like crap every single day I was there.  So I found a new job and they treat me wonderfully.  BUT I might be leaving here for a better opportunity for a job more in the field of what I would love to do!
  • I found out about the job from an ex-coworker, my previous job was crazy mainly because of the boss. I applied because I simply had no clue what to do with myself and was about to graduate college. I've stayed because it's a good place to work most days.

  • "Why are you working there?"

I've been asked that a lot. lol!  Especially by those here that are familiar with my old posts about my boss.

Anyway, I started because my old company knocked me down to part time because they were struggling (have since gone out of business). I needed full time & this job was available. That was over 6 years ago.  My boss is insane, a pig and usually a jerk, but I stay for a few reasons.

    1. The devil I know. 2. Lots of freedom. 3. Work is 4 miles from my home. 4. FInally earned 3 weeks vacation time. 5. Paid decent for what I do.

  • I started with it because when I graduated with my degree my mom was like you have to get insurance.  So where I worked in college offered me a full time position with benefits so I of course took it even though it had nothing to do with my degree.

Now I stay because I get a pretty nice time off package.  I hope to change jobs in the next 1-2 years though.

  • I worked 2 seasonal jobs last summer (70hrs/week outside!) and was getting married in November so I needed a job asap. All I could find was minimum wage so I settled for a nanny position because it's higher than that, with really chill parents that were cool with me taking time off for my cousin's wedding, my wedding, and my HM.

The mother is a teacher and they won't need me in the summer - but I haven't told them that I don't plan on coming back in the fall. I'd really like to find a 'permanent' job and not another seasonal position but it's hard because I've never worked indoors during the summer.

  • One nice thing about where I work is the opportunity to move around and move up.  I started as a clerk in an outpatient clinic and then moved into a administrative assistant position, then I took a different admin asst position in a different department for a 10% pay increase, I stayed in that miserable job for 1 year but had I not been there I never would have worked in my previous position as the assistant to the Residency Program Coordinator.  I stayed in that position for 6 years, learned a LOT and was promoted when the Fellowship Coordinator left!

The reason I am working this job and will keep this job.  I like it.  I make pretty good money (and I don't have a degree), great benefits, lots of vacation and sick time, very flexible, and I feel that it's a stable job since DH is in the automotive industry and we all know that's not very stable.

  • Well I'm still at my same job that I got when I first graduated college so that's why I started here because they were one of the only places that gave me an interview after sending out dozens of resumes Embarrassed

But I've stayed because I love my coworkers and most days it's actually enjoyable.  I get to travel so I get to see some cities I've never been before (DC, New York, New Orleans, LA, etc.), and for the most part I really like what I do.

  • I initially took this job because (1) the grant I was working under at my old job was ending, (2) I wanted to move to Ann Arbor to like with DH, and (3) it was in the field I wanted to work it.

But it has turned out to be a dream job!!!  I honestly wish I could stay here and do this forever.  I can't because (1) it's a 2 year fellowship and (2) DH will likely take a job far, far away and I will go with him.  But it seriously makes me really sad every time I think about leaving. Crying

I feel your pain! I hope you find something you love even more than what you do now!

  • I'm currently a SAHM because the kids need someone to watch them.  We tried to let Emma stay home by herself a few times but it never ended well.  Lily's too little to change her own pants so that becomes an issue too.

    LMAO!!!

  • I ask myself this every day!

Because it's in my field, overall I like it, and it pays better/has good insurance/perks than probably almost anything else I could find.

Really, I'm just biding my time and trying to help earn $$ so I can evenutally become a SAHM

  • Most days I love my job and other days I want to quit.  Honestly, I think every job is like that though.  I like the people I work with and the company isn't bad.  I think I'll be here for a while.

    LOL!

Actually if Kaitlyn could change a diaper, she'd be set for me to work & she can watch Joshua, I just have to leave stuff on the bottom shelf of the fridge for her!

    Muahahahha... Love it.

Maybe we could leave all four of them together and they could have their own little daycare going on.
