Ft. Lauderdale hotels

We're planning a trip to Ft. Lauderdale in April.  Any hotel recommendations?  We want to be on the beach.  Thanks!

Re: Ft. Lauderdale hotels

  • There are a TON of great hotels across the street from the beach: The W, Hilton, Ritz, Courtyard by Marriott...all are great.  There are only a handful of hotels that are ON the beach...the Harbor Beach Marriott has a private beach.
  • The Diplomat is my fave and the W is the new hottest place.

  • Hilton Fort Lauderdale is all suites. The one-Bedroom Oceanfront have wrap around balconies. I can't say enough good things about this place. I have stayed at the Diplomat which was fabulous especially if you get a Club Level Room, however the beach was eroded and at around 3 the shadow of the hotel would cover the pool area.

If you have a car, I say drive 20 more mins north and stay at the Boca Beach Resort - it's amazing!
20?!  That's, um, ambitious.  I grew up near ft laud beach, and it was 20 min to just get to the highway usually, let alone go north on i-95 to get to boca.

I don't know about hotels, op, since my parents still live just a mile or two from the beach, but I know there's a great b&b on las olas and the intercoastal.  It's only about 3 blocks from the beach.

I also recommend the Hilton with the suites, the rooms were very big/ nice (we had our baby so 2 rooms was great, plus kitchen is nice for saving leftovers/beers/snacks etc.). It was easy to walk across to the beach and catch a taxi to any part of town.
