Another question about your refi since I didn't want to hijack your other post...

DId you guys do the refi with the same company that currently holds your mortgage?

I also looked at the HARP program a little more on the makinghomeaffordable.gov website and you can check if your loan is freddie/fannie backed.  When I put in our address it said it was backed by Fannie. (yay!)  I guess DH assumed we had nothing to do with either one of them b/c Chase holds our mortgage and that is who we send the payments to.  I am going to pass along the info I found and have him call them to make sure that we can't refi.

Re: **Mon.petit.chou**

  • We are staying with the same lender. The program says you don't have to, but every other bank I called said they are only refinancing loans they already hold (when it comes to HARP). So basically we were forced into staying with who we are already with. I was a little frustrated because it meant I couldn't shop around for the best rate/closing costs, but in the grand scheme of things it will still be such a big improvement that I can live with it.

You should definitely call - I hope it can work out for you too!
