about names... If you had named yourself as a kid

Did you have a name that you liked more than your own growing up?   If your parents had waited to give you an official birth name until you could pick out your own, do know what you would have chosen back when you were 10 years old or whatever?

Because of the show "Clarissa explains it all", I wanted to be a Clarissa for a while.   I also liked the name Anastasia quite a bit for some reason.

But now, I am pretty glad those aren't my  names.    Erin is just fine, it's not TOO common and it's easy to say/spell.  Although sometimes people think it should be Aaron, and I have to correct them.

  • I really wanted to be Alice for a while around age 5.

  • I wanted my friend's name "Nadia." Now I am happy with Jessie.

I've never met a girl that spelled it Aaron.

Me either.   Aaron = boy name      Erin = girl name.

But people hear it the same and think the spellings are interchangeable, I guess, because the correction is common for me.    I think it's common sense, but that's probably because it's MY name.

  • I wanted to be "Megan" when I was a kid.  All the girls I knew named Megan were cute and fun.

My name doesn't bother me; it's not too common.  My boss sometimes calls me by my full name (Cynthia), which rubs me the wrong way.  I've never gone by Cynthia (only my parents call me that, but it's pretty rare), I've always been Cindy or Cin.

  • Gold eye came out in 95 and then we got the video game version in 98 I think... but anyways I wanted my name to be Natalya SO bad. She was kind of a badass.

  • I always wanted to be Savannah.  Does anyone remember the movie from the 80s called "Savannah Smiles"?  (I'm dating myself here, I realize!)  Anyway, I loved that movie.

That's my mom's name, and one of my favorites!  I suppose it's not too far off from your real name though.  You could probably still go by that and get away with it.

I wanted to be Abigail or Zoe.  Don't know why.

  • My name is pretty rare and even when I do meet someone with it, it's usually a different spelling. I wanted to be like everyone else I knew and be a Jennifer, Ashley or Sarah. But now I'm glad I'm not since I have multiple friends with those names and they are either given a nickname like "Tall Jen" or "Little Ashley"

  • I wanted something that ended with an "a" and had a boy's nickname like Alexandra or Samantha.

  • I wanted to be named Tori Louise Camden. You know, be a Camden from 7th Heaven and have a perfect family!
  • I wanted to be Samantha growing up. Now I am pretty happy with the nickname Liz. I still hate Elizabeth, and it makes me cringe when it comes up at work. I am in the system as Elizabeth, but everything (including my cards and my signature) are all Liz. So I get really annoyed when people call me Elizabeth.

  • I didn't really have any favorites.

I like my name now, and although nobody can read it correctly, it works for me.

I'm kind of said I gave up my last name, it worked well with my first name (better than my new name) I considered going to my middle name when I got married, but it would have been a pain and I don't think I would have remembered to reply to it.

That's my full name, but I've always gone by Alyx... When I first go into jobs or am doing legal things I'll go by Alexandra, but friends and family all call me a variation (Alyx, Al, Lexx).

I would have given myself a really stupid random name if I had the chance. It's probably a good thing I didn't!

  • Oh every time we chose fake names for whatever we were doing I was always Crystle. I wanted my name to be Jentree at some point too yuck thinking back on that Jentree is awful

  • Imagine my disappointment when I found out my parents were going to name me Marlaina (gorgeous!) and they ended up naming me Krystal. What a let down.

  • The only thing I LOVED about my name as a kid was all the Barbie dolls I got. Other than that, try finding a bike license plate that isn't Stacy or Stacey. It's hard.
