Speaking of commonness of names
My name is fairly common but not trendy. It's been among the top 50 names for girls for a long time, so it's fairly consistent.
Anyhow, one day H and I were watching some movie set in England. I can't remember which movie it was, but there was a girl named Liz in it. I turned to H and said, "Did you ever notice that the name Elizabeth seems to be a lot more common in England?"
H said, "Gosh, I wonder why that might be."
A beat.
Another.
Me: "Ooooooooh, right."
Re: Speaking of commonness of names
Lol, I have definitely had the same thought and conversation.
Did you ever go by Elizabeth, or have you always been Liz?
My Aunt never thought my cousin would go by Liz, and used to give me dirty looks if I even said "Lizabeth". She totally goes by Liz now, and her mom calls her that too.
A lot of my immediate family members call me Elizabeth. I have an aunt Liz, who I'm named after, so to avoid confusion she was always Liz and I, Elizabeth. My friends have pretty much always called me Liz, though.

hahahha!
Both my grandmother and sister have the middle name Elizabeth.
As some of you know, I'm Elisabeth
Part of the reason mom gave me the S is so I wouldn't be "Lizzie"
I still have a couple people who call me Liz though.
I was Beth growing up.
